Planet Smasher Games: Space Gits Kickstarter

Planet Smasher Games bringen einen neuen Skirmisher auf Kickstarter raus.

Space Gits: A Miniatures Game of Drunk-Ass Space Orcs

From the creator of GASLANDS comes a dexterity-based skirmish game of lootin‘, shootin‘ and scootin‘.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 1

SPACE GITS is a dexterity-based miniatures skirmish game about drunk-ass space orcs lootin‘, shootin‘ and scootin‘ from award-winning designer Mike Hutchinson (Gaslands, A Billion Suns, Hobgoblin: Brutal Fantasy Battles).

It features the art of miniatures painter Tyler Russo (Billion Dollar Clown Farm) and illustrator Till Förster (Eternøl). It is brought to you in collaboration with Kromlech, who are supplying the miniatures for this campaign, and have sculpted some new models for the game.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 2

You play as a gang of drunk-ass space orcs rioting through the megacity of Gnork. You are out for a thumpin‘ good time, and to loot whatever isn’t nailed down.

SPACE GITS features a host of unique and innovative dexterity mechanics, supports 2-5 players and plays out in under an hour. It welcomes and encourages kitbashing, and can be played as a drinking game. It includes rules for drunken orc-on-orc combat, a full-on campaign system, and vehicle rules. (Planet Smasher Games does not condone drink-driving, except in 28mm scale). It is extremely fun.

  • Dexterity-based skirmish game
  • Miniature-agnostic, kitbash-friendly
  • 2-5 players
  • 30-60 minutes
  • Full campaign system
  • Hella fun

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 3

SPACE GITS is intended for an immature adult audience and contains depictions of alcohol and rioting. Its rules have been rated „severe“ for Jank.

The Game

You control a gang of drunken orcs, rampaging through the city, looting as much as you can before the filth arrive and break up the party.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 4

Measure towards your dice for movement and shooting!

It has particularly silly rules. To move, you roll dice into the play area and move directly towards the dice, wherever they land. You shoot pretty much the same way, rolling dice and spraying bullets towards them, hoping someone is in the way. You fight using a twist on rock-paper-scissors, where each throw selects a different fighting action, so you end up in a macho bluffing game, trying to predict if your opponent will throw shove, pinch or thump.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 5

Don’t let the tower fall!

Both damage and activations are managed using little towers of dice that have to stay in contact with your little gits at all times. That means, when you move the model, you have to move the tower of dice along with it: if the tower ever falls down, so does your git, and they can’t get back up unless a mate boots them up!

Scoot around looting bottle caps, mugging your opponents and generally causing mayhem until the 30min timer is up and you have to leg it!

What You Need To Play

  • 3-5 space orc miniatures each.
  • Some table space (call it 2×2-foot square, cos otherwise you’ll ask) and some rusty looking city terrain and general rubbish to fill it.
  • A buttload of D6s and at least one set of funny shaped RPG dice for some of the guns.
  • 20 or so bottle caps (or random tokens, coins or empty bases).
  • A tape measure or rule because it’s a miniatures game. (I actually prefer using a short wooden school ruler, because I can lay it down on the table and have both hands available to scoot my models around.)

How to Play

Is it fun?!

You bet your ass it is. Want proof?

My buddy Peter Gifford, aka Universal Head, aka The Esoteric Order of Gamers, played the beta version of the game. „It flowed beautifully and we laughed our heads off!“ he said after.

The Rulebook

I’m creating the rulebook myself, doing the game design, writing and layout. I have written 128 pages of drunken goodness, which I will be laying out myself into a hardback book, full-colour throughout. It will be A5, and I’m really looking forward to making something that fully represents me and my passion. I’m really inspired by the books that Sean Sutter (Relicblade) and Kevin Rahman (Forbidden Psalm) have made. They are my benchmark.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 7

This is a ring-bound pre-production copy I got made at the local print shop.

The book will be produced by Standart Impressa, based in Lithuania. Standart Impressa printed the hardback Hobgoblin rulebook, so we can be certain that the quality is going to be absolutely top-notch (as that book was gloriously high quality). It will have a matt soft touch laminate on the cover, just as Hobgoblin did.

I’m taking a very “arts and crafts” approach to the layout, using torn up pieces of coloured card to create the elements that I composite into the final page layouts. You can see this in the Quick Start Rules pamphlet: that is the style the rulebook will have throughout.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 8

You’ll also find utterly sick photography from Tyler featured heavily throughout, plus a few orcs painted by me too. The cover illustration is by Till, who also contributed half a dozen other illustrations for the book’s interior.

Playtest the Beta Rules

I released SPACE GITS in early access back in June 2024. Since then, the beta rulebook has evolved from an initial 10-page pamphlet into a fully-developed and fleshed out 100-ish pages.

Download the beta rulebook (FREE)

I release my games in early access because player input and playtesting is essential to making my games as fun as they are. I’d love your help to playtest the game during the campaign, while I still have the opportunity to make final tweaks to the manuscript. Because of that, I’m offering the beta rulebook for FREE for the duration of the Kickstarter campaign. It is a rough and ready version of the rulebook, just exported from Google Docs, without any illustrations, finished photography or nice layout.

Powered By Riot Dice

As part of this campaign, I am releasing the core rules of SPACE GITS as Riot Dice, an open source engine for chaotic dexterity-based miniatures games.

SPACE GITS is powered by Riot Dice. If you want to make your own game that is powered by Riot Dice, check out the Riot Dice System Reference Document, whcich is offered under a Creative Commons CC by 4.0 licence for others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to me as the creator. The licence allows for commercial use. Find out more at planetsmasher.games/riot-dice.

Will the rulebook be available at retail after the compaign?

Probably not, to be honest. After the campaign, you’ll continue to be able to pick up the PDF rulebook via Itch, but I don’t currently have any plans to get the hardcover rulebook into retail distribution.

If the campaign goes well, I’ll likely return to Kickstarter in a year or so with an expansion (which I have already started work on) and folks will be able to pick up a physical copy again then. This is a boutique indie game with a limited window of availability: if you want a hard copy, now is your moment.

Hardback Rulebook

Got plenty of orcs already and just want the game? Back the “Hardback Rulebook” level to get the beautiful, full-colour rulebook. You get the PDF for free too!

Perfect fuel for a gaming weekend, or enough to get a campaign running at your local club or FLGS.

This bundle is £498, versus the total RRP of £640 for the individual items. This is the deepest discount I’m offering on the campaign, because I want you to play this with your friends! 😀

Retailer Book Bundle

If you are a game store owner interested in offering SPACE GITS to your customers, I’m offering a bundle of a dozen hardback rulebooks at a 50% discount. I won’t ask for confirmation that you’re a retailer; if you are prepared to buy 12 copies of SPACE GITS, that’s proof enough for me!

Unique Pledge Levels

As part of this campaign, I’m offering 4 unique pledge levels. 3 people will be able to bag their very own Billion Dollar Clown Club gangs, snagging the actual painted gits featured in the rulebook (and on this Kickstarter page). They were kitbashed and painted by Mr Tyler Russo, and they are available as premium loot.

The final pledge level is an invitation to hang out and make something cool together. I love making miniature games, and I particularly love making them fast. If you are the person that backs the top pledge level: you get to suggest a game idea or concept, and I will spend three days making it. It will be a Planet Smasher game, but you will have joint credit on the cover. Don’t believe I can make a rad minis game in three days? I have proof. Srlsy tho, if you do pledge at this level, it means a huge amount to me that you want to support the work that I I and ensure I can make miniature games for years to come. Thank you in advance!

Add-Ons

If anything takes your fancy, but isn’t included in the pledge level you want, feel free to add it on. You could pick-up a second copy of the rulebook to gift to your opponent, or a second Officer Krunk to convert and add to your gang as a second riot cop.

The Miniatures

SPACE GITS is entirely miniatures-agnostic (meaning you can play with orcs from any manufacturer or source that you wish) and massively encourages kitbashing (thanks to the huge array of weapons and fancy gear you can kit your lads out with) but I have teamed up with Kromlech to offer miniatures as part of this Kickstarter campaign, so you can pick up some miniatures that are JUST RIGHT for playing the game, and get everything you need in one place.

Officer Krunk – Kickstarter Exclusive Miniature

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 13

Officer Krunk crunches down the filthy streets of West Gnork, feared and respected in equal measure. Wherever gits gather to loot this fine city, Krunk’s massive silhouette is sure to be seen, barreling into the mob and meting out justice with truncheon and pistol. Back the City of Gnork Bundle (or higher) to get the exclusive Officer Krunk miniature, or choose him as an add-on.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 14

Krunk comes with a range of arm options, and can be built holding a pistol or git-stick in his right hand, and an improvised riot shield or truncheon in his left hand. The awesome thing about this is that you end up with some great leftover bits for your other gits. I built Krunk with a pistol and shield and gave the night-sticks to two of my Fuzz.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 15

“You have the right to run away wiv that telly, mate, but if you do, then I have the right to run you down and smash you over the head wiv it until you remain silent. Go on, I’ll give you a head-start.”

Conversion ideas: Improvised riot shields. Truncheons. Ruddy big helmets. Badges made of scrap. Rotating lights strapped to their heads.

The Fuzz Kit: You get The Fuzz kit as part of the “2 Player Start Set” and “Give Me Everything” pledge levels, or you can choose it as an add-on to any other pledge level. The Fuzz kit contains parts to build 5 officious gits, plus some leftovers for your bits box.

Conversion ideas: Sweaty vest-wearing orcs with chefs‘ hats peddling dubious meat products.

Grill Cooks Kit: You get the Grill Cooks kit as part of the “2 Player Start Set” and “Give Me Everything” pledge levels, or you can add it as an add-on to any other pledge level. The Grill Cooks kit contains parts to build 5 foul-smelling gits, plus some leftovers for your bits box.

Beer & Bottles Arms

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 21

You’ve got two hands. At least one of them should be holding a drink. You get a set of the Beer & Bottles Arms as part of the “Give Me Everything” pledge level, or you can choose it as an add-on to any other pledge level. You also get a set of them with each of the gang packs above. In each pack, you get 10 arms, 5 left arms and 5 right arms.

Smoke Break Arms

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 22

Honestly, these guys are mostly social smokers, they only really smoke when they’ve been drinking. Also, if you carefully carve out the cigar from between the fingers, you end up with another hand option… You get the Smoke Break Arms as part of the “Give Me Everything” pledge level, or you can choose it as an add-on to any other pledge level. In each pack, you get 10 arms, 5 left arms and 5 right arms.

The City of Gnork

After the guys at Kromlech read the beta version of SPACE GITS, they immediately got excited to help bring the city of Gnork to life. The game set in the trash-heaped urban sprawl of an orc megacity (metroporclis? morktropolis?) and we want you to be able to play your games in that city. Kromlech sculpted some chunky-ass pieces of terrain that make awesome centrepieces for your games.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 23

The Planet of Crunge, dominated by the megacity of Gnork

Teleportaloo

The City Of Gnork is nothing if not welcoming of municipal innovation. These ingenious contraptions can be deployed as needed throughout the city without needing to be plumbed in! You simple flush, and your business is teleported away. Magic, right?! Where does it end up? I’m afraid that’s a national secret. I advise you not to ask again. During the game, your gits can run up and flush the loo. If they do, you flip a coin into the play area and teleport into contact with it.

Boot a machine to get it to vend a random item. Roll a D6:

1. First Aid Kit: roll your dice tower, discard any 5-6s, then rebuild it.
2. SupaAmmo: +1/+1 damage to this git’s shooting weapons for their next two shoot actions. (Give them 2 coins to track this).
3. Head-Sized Cooking Pot: Immune to shooting and explosion damage until they fall over. (Give them a coin to track this).
4. Energy Drink: Roll 6D6 move dice for their next two activations.
5. Can of Spinach: Deals double damage in fights until they fall over.
6. 777: Win 3 bottle caps.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 28

Goblin Gang

As part of the Give Me Everything pledge level, you get a Goblin Gang. You can also pick it as an add-on! These lil‘ guys are can be added to any of your gangs, and have a fun mix of gear, all of which has special rules in the game (except for the pogo stick, which I very much need to go and write rules for right now).

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 29

Will these Kromlech minis be available after the campaign?

Yes! All the miniatures and terrain you see here, except for Krunk, will be available from Kromlech after the campaign, both directly and from those fine retailers that stock Kromlech products.

Officer Krunk is a Kickstarter exclusive miniature and won’t be available after the campaign. If you want him, better grab him! (Halt! You are in violation of city statute 182/E: assaulting an officer of the law.)

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 30

Gather Your Gits

There are a few ways to build your gang, but the general intention is that you pick a faction and kitbash some gits to fit that theme. There’s a ton of different options for different flavours of git, armfuls of weapons and fancy gear, and vehicles!

Gits

When building your gang, you pick the sort of git your model represents.

  • Orcs! Your regular, honest citizen of Gnork. Each orc costs 5 caps, and is blessedly free of special rules.
  • Bullorcs! Some orcs are just bigger, stronger and tougher than others. If you want a particularly beefy orc in your gang, a Bullorc costs 7 caps and has one special rule that allows him to carry bigger weapons.
  • Goblins! One of these little scrots will cost you 4 caps. They have some special rules that ensure that they are weaker and more poorly kitted out then their larger brethren.
  • Gremlins! Smaller than goblins, one of these tiny green menaces costs you 3 caps. They have some rubbish special rules (but the first one of them doesn’t count towards your 5 model deployment limit).
  • Gnawballs! One of these semi-domesticated eating-machines costs you 4 caps. They are also known as gobdogs, mawswine and good boys. They have a few special rules, including one which says: if this gnawball is modelled with explosives, they are “rigged” and explode if they fall over!
  • Klankbot! Whether one of the lifta-loada suits they use in the space port docks, a mechanical warframe for a goblin, or a fully autonomous construction robot, Klankbots cost 10 caps and have a mess of special rules.

Give them a Name

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 31

Use our OFFICIAL SPACE GIT BIRTH CERTIFICATE GENERATOR to find out the name of your new git.

Weapons & Fancy Gear

You might be interested about what sort of snazzy gear you can kit your gits out with. I’ll not tell you what any of these do, but allow me to give you a sense of what’s available to pick from when building your models.

  • Shootin‘ Weapons! Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, SMG, Hand Cannon, Grappling Gun, Improvised Bombs, Molotov Cocktails, Machine Gun, Flamethrower, Long-Barrel Rifle, Riot Cannon, Rattle Cannon, Mega Blaster, Rocket Launcher, Portal Gun…
  • Fightin‘ Weapons! Massive H2H Weapon, Pointed Stick, Electric Gitstick, Buzzsaw, Massive Buzzsaw, Mechanical Fist…
  • Fancy Gear! Ammo Box, Bayonet, Big Coat, Banner Ad, Megaphone, Improvised Shield, Big Hat, Cans, Improvised Bombs, Fuel Can, Massive Spanner, Strong Booze, Overly Long Gun Barrel, Oversized Gun, Spikey Bits, Bully Boots, Medical Equipment, Chunky Armour, Beast Mount, Musical Instrument, Jetpack, Kitbashed Weapon, Bionic Arm, Bionic Leg(s), Tracks, Extra Arm, Hook Hand, Mono-Wheel, Skull Cap, Steel Jaw…
  • Vehicles! Bike, Bike with sidecar, Buggy, Half-track, Jeep, Drag Racer, Truck, Buzzcopter, Scrap Tank…
  • Vehicle Mods! Buzzblades, Spiked Roller, Electroshock Collision Warning System, Experimental Teleporter, Explosive Ram, Extra Seats, Flame Gouts, Force Field, Full-stocked Minibar, Fuzzy Dice, Git Launcher, Gory Trophy Rack, Honking Great Shaker Scoop, Hover-jets, Huge Spoiler, Huge Wheels, Insanely Loud Sound System, Jet Engine, Loads of Spikes, Massive Exhausts, Massive Ram, Mega-magnet, Megaphone, Mine Dropper, Mountains of Ammo, Mystical Bumper Stickers, Oil Slick Dropper, Racing Stripes, Ramshackle Extra Armour, Sidesaws, Smoke Belcher, Sponson, Tank Tracks, Turbo Booster, Wrecking Ball, Electric Motor, Espresso Machine (okay I actually haven’t written rules for this last one, but I will…)

Factions

The rulebook will have a bunch of factions, three of which you’ve seen already, but which may additionally include (or not) the following gits:

  • Old Boys! “Diz medal? Hmph. Crunge 88th Mechanized Infantry. Made me the ghob I am today. Pass that oil can, lad… And that bottle.”
  • Bad Docs! “Right this way… Good prices, acceptable results. That arm looks a little weedy, I daresay we can improve it a shade. Oh, him? Ignore him, he was like that when he came in… Cry-baby.”
  • The Green Wing! “I ain’t looting, I’m opposing a tyrannical government.”
  • Fly Boys! “Groos and gits, welcome to East Gnork. The local time is… somewhat chaotic. Now piss off! Last one off the plane buys me a drink at the Rusted Propeller.“
  • Agitators! “The warmongers are gone! Now, my fellow groos and grots, is the time! Comrades! Smash this military- industrial complex. Remake Crunge for the ordinary working ghob!”
  • Riot Mimes! “Oi, who’s dis fancy lad? Out me way, weirdo. Ouch! Who put a bollocking wall here!?”
  • Mushroom Psycho Barbarian Vikings! “Rrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!! [techno beat]”

As you’ve seen from the descriptions of the Fuzz, Grill Cooks, and City Boys a bit earlier, a faction just grants your gits a single unique special rule. They are intended mostly as kitbashing prompts as much as gamey-game-game synergy-engines (although there are some cool combos to find).

Who Am I?

I’m Mike Hutchinson, an award-winning independent game designer mostly known for my miniatures games, such as Gaslands, A Billion Suns and Hobgoblin: Brutal Fantasy Battles. At the start of 2024 I took the risky decision to quit my career and take my passion for designing tabletop games full-time.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 32

Last year I published eight new games in early access. This one was the one that made me happiest. There aren’t enough dexterity-based miniatures games in the world, and I think this one is really fun and also funny. I want to bring this game to you directly, partly so I can make it just exactly the way I want to see it (as I’ve never had the chance to do that before) and partly so I can make the most money out of this game and hopefully feed my children for another six months.

This campaign is hugely influential on my ability to continue to make games for you.

I have a number of exciting publisher-backed projects in the pipeline, but they take a long time to sign, a long time to produce, and a long time to pay out, so I won’t be seeing significant royalties from them until 2027-28. In order to make those (very exciting) games, I need to find a way to make it through 2025 and 2026. I am using a mixture of direct sales of my games through Itch and DriveThru, promotion of my existing games like Gaslands and Hobgoblin, and my Patreon. The most significant contributor to my ability to survive 2025/26 will be a series of moderately successful Kickstarter campaigns.

Planet Smasher Games Space Gits Kickstarter 33

I’m extremely grateful to my Patreons for supporting me. My Patreon supporters get early access to all my work-in-progress games for free. I share my journey on my Planet Smasher Games Youtube channel, so you can always see what I’m up to.

Wanna hear me chat about SPACE GITS? Why not settle down with this nice video, where I chat to lovely Gerry over at OnTableTop about it?

  • Geil.
