Perry Miniatures: Neuheiten
Perry Miniatures präsentieren ihre Neuheiten und einen kleinen Bericht ihres Besuches der Tactica.
New British Infantry and the game TACTCA (Hamburg). We were kindly invited over to TACTCA this year (possibly the tenth year now!) with Jervis Johnson. Frank Becker, who puts on the most amazing games and is one of the key organizers of the show, wondered if the three of us would like to not only take part in his game, but run it! He was going to use Valour and Fortitude, so Jervis stepped forward to run the game assisted by Alan and Michael as ADCs.For the game he needed a few particular figures for an unusual unit. The Hamburg City Guard at the time were wearing British supplied clothing. The battle for Wilhelmsburg was over the winter of 1813-14, so greatcoated ‘British’ in Belgic shakos were needed. Alan thought he could easily add these to the range and the next four codes were born!British Napoleonic Army 1801-1528mm metal figuresDesigned by Alan PerryBH 169 Peninsular War Infantry command in greatcoats marching (stovepipe shako)BH 170 Peninsular War Infantry marching (stovepipe shako)BH 171 1813-15 Infantry command in greatcoats (Belgic shako)BH 172 1813-15 Infantry marching in greatcoats (Belgic shako)The game was excellent! Here’s the brief background to it.In 1813 and 1814, the island Wilhelmsburg of the river Elbe, located just south of today’s Hamburg city centre, was the scene of fierce battles between the French and Allied armies on several occasions. Where the “Bürgerhaus Wilhelmsburg” stands today and where TACTICA is situated, ran the great military road between Hamburg and Harburg, which in its construction became the forerunner of the Hamburg Elbe Bridges and the “Wilhelmsburg Reichstraße”. The so-called „French period“ from 1806 to 1814 shaped Wilhelmsburg and large parts of northern Germany to this day. Although the battles and conflicts of the Napoleonic Wars in northern Germany are only a sideshow of the important events of that time, their history is nevertheless extremely diverse and exciting. The game worked very well, with the Russians and allied Hamburg City Guard storming the French semaphore station, bridgehead and ferry dock plus the emplacements protecting them. The Allies attacked from the two long edges of the table while the French tried to hold the great military road. The central station was captured , the rod cut and with more victory points than the French, the Allies won.We always have a great time at TACTICA and this was yet another lovely weekend. Many thanks to Frank, Johannes and the TACTICA team for all their hard work.
