Hail Caesar Epic Battles Sprue Focus – Celt Warriors
The Celts are coming to Hail Caesar Epic Battles! With their army box soon to hit shelves across the world, let’s take a look at the brand new Celt sprue that lies at its heart. Packed with a wide range of troop types (and chariots!), it’s your one-stop solution for fielding these fearsome warriors on the Epic Battles tabletop!
Hail Caesar Epic Battles veterans will no doubt be familiar with the half-size Celt sprue that formed part of the first wave of releases, allowing you to field wild tribesmen as allies for your Roman and Carthaginian forces. This new sprue full-size expands upon that base, giving you even more troops and variety, and making it possible to field an entire army of Celts. Let’s have a look at what’s on the sprue!
We’ll start with the core of any Celt army – big warbands of infantry! Each sprue gives you five strips of infantry, ready to assemble into a mighty host. Three of these strips are your ‘standard’ warriors, who, although unarmoured, pack a mean punch in close combat, while two are the infamous Gaesatae mercenaries – naked warriors trusting in the gods, their impressive physiques, and some very strategically placed shields to protect them in combat! Both types are designed to be ‘ranked up’ two strips to a base, and are absolutely packed with detail. Their large shields are a great canvas for really going to town with simple but striking designs, and with plenty of bare torsos (and more!), they’re incredibly quick and easy to paint to a great standard.
Accompanying the rank and file are a host of individual infantry figures – five lightly armed skirmishers with javelins and five archers to harry the enemy and screen your warband’s advance, plus three command figures to lead them all – a glorious chieftain, accompanied by a standard bearer and musician with the iconic carnyx trumpet. In addition, any of these models can be mounted in your chariots – more on them in a moment!
The Celts were renowned for their horsemanship during the Punic Wars, and this sprue ensures your army will never be without swift-moving, hard-hitting riders. Five light cavalrymen range ahead of your forces, while the same number of armoured medium riders wait to charge home and trample your foes beneath their hooves.
We’ve saved perhaps the best for last, however. Each sprue contains a mighty war-chariot, beloved of Celt forces all across Europe! Capable of running roughshod over terrified enemies, these swift machines give you fantastic manoeuvrability on the tabletop, and can hit like absolute hammers when used correctly. Each chariot has options for two different types of decorative side panelling, as well as two crewmen (one driver and an armoured spearman), and as mentioned above, you can easily mount any of the skirmishing infantry or command for even more variety – every self-respecting chieftain likes to have as many snazzy chariots as possible!
A Celt force is an imposing sight on the table, and a brilliant opportunity to have fun with your painting. With a simple colour palette and a bit of creativity, no two warriors need look exactly alike, and with the figures boasting crisp detail, it’s surprisingly easy to pick out plenty of ‘spot’ colours to elevate them to the next level. From striped trousers to lime-spiked hair, woad warpaint, or pilfered Roman equipment, there’s a whole host of ways to make your Celts truly unique.
The new sprue also provides some chieftain figures on foot to further customise your divisions. Combine these with the mounted commanders from the previous sprue and you’ll have ll the figures needed to inspire your forces to victory. Within the Celt Army boxed set you’ll also find the pictured female chieftain, cast in finely-detailed Warlord Resin, the only place you can find this fantastic figure.
With the Celt Army boxed set absolutely packed with this awesome sprue, it’s time to add a fearsome new dimension to your games of Hail Caesar Epic Battles. Let the Romans and Carthaginians squabble over the Mediterranean – the gods know who the greatest warriors of all are, and your Celts will be only too happy to prove it in battle!
Want to get your hands on loads of ‘ard-as-nails Celt warriors? Of course you do! The new Celt Army box is the best way to do it – get yours now!
