The armies of Evil are set to receive strange and terrifying reinforcements in the battle for Middle-earth, in the form of the War Drakes of Rhûn and the Corsairs of Umbar Ballista.

Rhûnish Drakes are a rare sight indeed, even in the eastern lands of Middle-earth. Held in high esteem by the Easterlings – and the Dragon Cult in particular – these stocky, venomous lizards confer status to their owner.

They are sometimes taken to war by larger Easterling armies, their Slow-acting Venom gradually incapacitating the foe: any enemy wounded by a Drake will reduce their Fight Value and Attacks by 1 for the rest of the game.

The Corsairs of Umbar are more familiar to the battlefields of the west, having pillaged their way up and down the coast of Gondor for years. Their ranks are now swelled by a wicked light artillery piece – a Ballista.

Accompanied by three crew, it’s been taken from the ship and deployed on land, firing with Strength 8 and the special rules Direct Shot, Piercing Shot and Bladed Bolts.

The Corsairs are back in strength, their numbers swelled by several returning miniatures, including: the Lords of Umbar (Dalamyr, Fleetmaster of Umbar and two Hasharin), the Bo’sun* and Captain, and the Crossbowmen.

Both sets are made of Forge World resin and will be released in due course. The War Drakes come in packs of two, and both bodies have two head options. Their rules will be available in the forthcoming Armies of Middle-earth supplement. The Corsair Ballista includes four single-pose miniatures, and rules can be found in The Armies of Lord of the Rings supplement.
