It hummed a meter above the ground, scanning the rubble and ruins tirelessly, searching for vital elements for the Shelter while regularly analyzing various pollutant levels and trapping samples needed by the Shelter’s chemists and biologists. Its mission was clear and simple. Its onboard cameras continuously recorded all its observations, and the recognition and exploration subprograms transmitted data live to its human operator. A subprogram identified a figure carefully concealed in the distant rocks. The alert was transmitted. Serial Flyer One continued its patrol and analysis. It froze in mid-air. The Operator had activated the automatic defense protocols. The Serial Flyer One then deployed its close-defense system and went into alert mode. The next organic figure to appear would be swiftly eliminated.“
