Magmaforged Dwarves of the Depths – April Trailer
Hello Adventurers, Collectors, and Merchants!
I hope you’re all enjoying our latest set! As April draws near, it’s finally time to unveil what’s coming next with the full trailer for next month’s release.Deep within the core of Mundus, where magma flows like blood through ancient veins, lies the home of the first dwarven race — the ancestors of all our beloved bearded warriors and smiths: the Dumlok.
Turn on the audio and hit play on the trailer above to witness the return of the magmaborn… the Magmaforged Dumlok are coming!
The Origin of the Dumlok (and the Dwarves!)
As many of you may know, it’s become a tradition for me to sculpt dwarves every April! Since it’s the month of my birthday, I take the opportunity to expand my favorite fantasy race with new heroes, units, and centerpiece models to grow the dwarven collection.
What many don’t know is that the Dumlok were one of the very first “monster” races I created over 10 years ago, back when I was writing the lore for our immersive RPG. The idea was that, during the First Age of Mundus, the world was still young and hostile — a land of searing heat, with constant volcanic activity reshaping the continents.
One of the few races able to survive in that unforgiving environment were the Duum-Lok: powerful, ash-skinned beings from the depths, with hair the color of flame and bodies naturally resistant to fire. I later simplified their name to Dumlok for their first Artisan Guild release, since Duum, the Lord of Blood, is not directly related to them.
The Dumlok thrived for centuries, though they were forced to serve the Fire Jotunn and live in fear of the deep dragons, such as Delani. As the world aged and cooled, however, something began to change — some among the Dumlok were born without the “Flaming Gift”, the divine spark of Omuba, Lord of Fire.
Why this happened remains uncertain. Perhaps Omuba was weakening due to his eternal war with Holmuran, Lord of Oceans. Whatever the cause, the Dumlok viewed these “unignited” children as a threat. Families who birthed them were hunted down and eventually exiled from the magma cities, forced to survive in the highlands.
Over centuries, this exiled branch adapted to colder climates and gave rise to what we now know as the regular dwarves. They eventually carved out their homes under the mountains — especially in frigid Skutagaard — but always far above the domains of their fiery ancestors.
If you’ve read this far — congratulations!
I know it’s a lot of lore, but worldbuilding and immersion are what keep me inspired to keep sculpting… along with your amazing support!Sketches
Their skin was the color of soot, their hair and beards like flaming braziers. They know no compassion, and their only objective is to gather slaves to fuel their war machine.
After years, I finally had the chance to return to one of my favorite races in Mundus — the Dumlok.
Following the first set of berserkers wielding ignited weapons, the Flameseekers, I wanted to explore their heavily armored troops, forged in a style completely distinct from that of the regular dwarves — something that would look demonic, as if crafted by an infernal smith.I spent a few days refining the design and silhouette of their armor to strike the right balance… and now I absolutely love how it turned out.
With heroes like Throgdur the Horned, a brutal battlerager wielding ignited fang weapons, (seen below) and the imposing Dumlok King Goldrun, this set brings some truly powerful additions to your collection! 🔥⚒️
Yes, we even got magma cannons 😉
The Dragonlings
With the previous Dumlok set (the Flameseekers) featuring the powerful Kalkotaurs — both as wild magma bulls and terrifying centaur-like fusions with flame dwarves — this time I wanted the Magmaforged clan to feel more like heavy knights.
At first, I considered having them ride Kalkotaurs again… but honestly, friends, if you already own the previous set, you can absolutely kitbash that yourself. No need to sculpt a duplicate unit!
Digging into their lore, I found inspiration in one of the Dumlok’s oldest enemies: Delani, the wingless dragon of Mundus’ core. So I thought… what if the Dumlok started stealing Delani’s eggs and raising the hatchlings for war?
I’m really happy with how the concept turned out. You can use the Delani Dragonlings as large beasts for your RPG campaigns — maybe as a deadly encounter before meeting the adult Delani — or as fiery cavalry for your Magmaforged Dumlok in wargames!
One of the Magmaforged Dumlok mounted on a Delani Dragonling, armed with a Vorgul shield and spear. As you can see, the Dumlok’s innate power allows him to ignite and melt the tip of his weapon — forged from pure Vorgul, a gem capable of withstanding unimaginable heat. Only the Dumlok know the secrets of working with such a material.
The Epic Boss
As the month was drawing to a close, I honestly wasn’t sure I’d have time to sculpt an Epic Boss worthy of this majestic set. But, well… you know how these things go!
Like in a video game, when you’re deep in a final boss fight and your health bar or timer is running out, and maybe the boss is about to unleash a massive AoE that will one-shot your character… you grit your teeth and go all in. I had a vision. I wanted a powerful fire giantess, and nothing was going to stop her from joining this collection!
All hail Princess Ignivara, daughter of Vulkarion, King of the Fire Jotunns!
Heir to the Flaming Throne of Omuba! 🔥👑It’s actually the first time I’ve ever sculpted a woman giant, and I truly enjoyed the experience. I hope you’ll love introducing her in your RPG campaigns, or perhaps leading your army in epic wargames.
Let’s be honest, female giants deserve more love on the tabletop!
Once again, I want to thank Ani for turning my sculpts into such an amazing video, and my father Renato for supporting this set in the best way possible.
A huge shoutout to Dave for his incredible paintwork — your brush truly brings these characters to life.Special thanks to Francesco Cavalieri and his band Windrose — not only for inspiring us, but for giving their blessing and letting us use their epic song Rock and Stone!
And finally, thank you — each and every one of you — for your continued support. You’re the reason I can keep creating art and building this world we love.
Cheers! 🍻⚒️🔥
