Still recovering from the destructive earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people, the region’s clergy preach a crusade against France and its allies. As the major nations vie for military, political, and ideological supremacy over the Mediterranean, the Bourbon royal family plots to reclaim its Neapolitan throne, sending agents from its Sicilian stronghold to support the briganti – Calabria’s bandit gangs – in waging a bloody guerrilla war against the occupying French. Meanwhile, rumors spread that the dead no longer rest easy, but rise from their graves to wander isolated valleys and mountain paths…

Brigante – £15.00

Whilst many Briganti see themselves as freedom fighters or patriots, there are those who are willing to apply their sinister skills in service to the necromancers – for a high price. Unfortunately, many will end up serving even after they pass from the living, whether they want to or not.

The Grave Golem – £12.00

The same necromantic energy that can fuse together old bones can also call together bits of headstones, mausoleums, and sarcophagi. These stone materials, energised by dark magic, act as a beacon to angry spirits, which are all too keen to answer the call. They “possess” the monstrosity and animate it to lethal effect!

Il Negromante – £4.00

It was shortly after the battle of Campo Tenese when rumours of a figure of shadow, cloaked in black with an unnatural disposition, started to spread. Whoever had the misfortune to spot this shadow and live to tell of it, typically in the dark hours before dawn, would say they could hear the moans of spectres, the rattling of bones, but somehow these phantom sounds seemed to emanate from it, rather than around it. As if the dead spawned from the shadow being itself.

But soon, the rumour turned to terror. The shadow began to show up in broad daylight, surrounded by a thick green fog. And, as the fog settled to the ground, a veritable legion of undead – ghosts, skeletal hordes, revenants, and more – would appear, as if the fog had been obscuring them all along. Scores would perish, only to rise again. And, just as quickly as the shadow appeared, it would vanish, having just acquired more minions for its dark army.

Necromancer Acolytes – £6.00

As Il Negromante’s power increases, it has become clear he cannot be everywhere at once. Thus, he spreads his influence through his cult followers, some of whom, as it turns out, have an affinity for the dark magic used to reanimate the dead. It is these cultists who Il Negromante has trained and set forth upon the region of Calabria to raise him an army.

Of course, these acolytes cannot hope to possess the same level of power as Il Negromante and, without their sinister sorcery, they are mere humans. But each acolyte has the power to call forth a battalion of undead minions. They go town to town, emptying tombs and graveyards for their master.

Nightmare Witch (La Janara) – £3.50

The Nightmare Witch is a troublesome foe. While sometimes benevolent, they can also be exceedingly dangerous. They are said to stalk the streets of Calabria at night, sow fear, sleep paralyse their victims, and, through their magic, cause them to have horrific nightmares whilst not quite asleep, and not quite awake. It is best to avoid getting too close to them.

Spectral Soldiers – £15.00

Spectral Soldiers are shades of former warriors. They have no memory of the people they once were; they have no knowledge of their families, their allegiances, or their comrades in arms. They only know of the providence of war. Calabria is pocked with battlefields, some small and some large, where countless men and women were slain.

This is prime territory for the necromancers, who are more than happy to recruit these restless, tortured warriors to battle once more. The necromancer commands them as if he were an officer. And, like good soldiers, they obey the commands. It’s all they understand.

Skeletal Soldiers (Napoleonic) – £6.00

Skeletal Soldiers make up the bulk of any necromancer’s legion of undead. So many dead French, British, Calabrian, and Neapolitan soldiers – hastily buried in unmarked pits after a battle – are forgotten; the necromancer need only locate these shallow burial sites to raise them up!
