Age of Fantasy World Book Preview

“No treasure lies beyond the reach of our fleets and Voidgates.” – High Elf Merchant Lord Sadonuan Tialarelius

Welcome back! Recently, we announced the upcoming release of the Age of Fantasy World Book. If you missed it, you can check it out here!

In our first article, we focused on the history of Tyria, but the World Book expands on the societies and conflicts of present day Tyria and the lands beyond it. You will be able to read about everything from the distant jungle home of the Saurians, which lay far over the oceans, to the seemingly infinite Planes which are accessible only through Voidgates.

This material should help introduce players to the setting of Age of Fantasy and related games, like AoF: Regiments, AoF: Skirmish, and AoF: Quest. If you want to learn more about the setting and figure out a little bit more about how the world fits together, then this book will serve as an excellent head start.

For those who want to figure out where their custom faction or band of heroes may fit into the setting, then the World Book is an excellent start!

Societies

Those willing to travel beyond the confines of their homeland will find many ways of life which have sprung up around Tyria, from artisans of sophisticated tools to foragers hunting for rare plants that grow only in the wild.

Tyria is a vast continent, home to many species and societies, including both natives to the region and relatively recent arrivals. The Age of Fantasy World Book explores how these different civilizations, ranging from Rift Daemons to Vinci, coexist side by side in Tyria and the lands beyond it.

Readers will learn about everything from currency and language to the conflicts which rage across Tyria and beyond. These pages will introduce you to some of the wonders of this continent; from the potions of its Goblin brewers to the theromodiles which have recently been introduced by High Elf traders.

You can also find information on magic, ranging from traditions, implements and arcane affinities. The book will also touch on conflicts in Tyria, from the core of the Human Empire out to the distant homeland of the Saurians.

If you want to learn more about the basic makeup of society, magic or warfare in Tyria, this book will serve as an excellent introduction!

The Planes

Heed my words, reader, and learn that riches are not all you shall find among the planes. We Ogres found our doom… – Preface of the memoirs of Razshan Üllimöy, Ogre Shaman.

Opr Fantasyworldbook 3

Tyria and the world beyond it are massive; more than most adventurers could hope to explore in a lifetime. Yet there are still some who seek more, turning beyond the horizon and towards the Planes.

Some factions, such as the Ghostly Undead and Eternal Wardens, still dwell in these distant lands, coming and going from Tyria through the use of Voidgates.

There appear to be a near countless number of Planes, taking a staggering number of forms and shapes. Some appear, for all intents and purposes, quite similar to Tyria; perhaps hosting a handful of species spread over a number of climates. Others may be composed of seemingly infinite cities or jungles of incomprehensible scale.

There are even some Planes where the rules of reality seem to be coming undone, whether through powerful arcane interference or even stranger means. Despite their strangeness and dangers, however, adventurers seem to be eternally drawn to exploring these distant Planes.

The World Book will explore some of the role of Planes in the setting, those who explore them and some of the more notable types which one might encounter. While these lands are far from Tyria, their influence upon the setting and its people are undeniable.

They also serve as an ideal means for those who seek to their own homebrewed fantasy world and armies to the setting of Tyria!

The Nexus Plane

“Anything that falls through enough Voidgates eventually finds its way to the Nexus.” -Clarath Gummath, Adventurer

Opr Fantasyworldbook 4

There have been many attempts to map out how the seemingly infinite Planes are connected. Most place the Nexus Plane at the core; it is a location where Voidgates seem to converge, connecting it to countless other Planes and making it home to vast number of species.

Most of these species have gathered around the sprawling metropolis of Voidhaven, whose mighty spires are said to still be visible even after a week’s march away. It is home to countless species from numerous cultures dwelling together among a hodgepodge of architectural styles. Virtually any kind of product or treasure can be found among these streets, if one knows the right place to look and has the right kind of coin to pay for it.

Adventurers, however, look beyond the safeties and comforts of Voidhaven to what lies beyond its walls; the Wilds. Here, among the constantly opening and closing Voidgates, a strange and chaotic territory has emerged which has so far defied attempts to chart it. Yet many mysteries and ancient treasures may be found here for anyone who dares risk the dangers which dwell there.

The World Book will expand on both Voidhaven and the Wilds beyond; giving readers a sense of the dangers and possibilities which lie in the region. This may serve as excellent inspiration for Quest campaigns or isolated skirmishes between Warbands. Larger regiments may even be rallied to claim the invaluable treasures or to march on Voidhaven itself!
