„We don’t question the strategy—we ensure its success.“
–Gar Saxon, Star Wars: Darth Maul – Son of Dathomir #2

GarSaxon FB

Gar Saxon served as a commander in the Shadow Collective during the Clone Wars. He led the Mandalorian Super Commandos and was later Imperial Viceroy of Mandalore. Known for his brutal methods, he ruthlessly served Maul throughout his rise to power and would go on to play a pivotal role in the conflict with Clan Wren. Join us in this installment of From Scene to Stats, where we look at Gar Saxon, the Militant Commando in Star Wars™: Legion!

Gar+Saxon

Gar Saxon’s unit card fully reflects his abilities as a soldier. His upgrade bar is extremely flexible, boasting a staggering seven options: two training, one comms, two gear, and two armament slots. This suite of choices is complimented by his inherent abilities. Gar Saxon has Jump 2 and Impervious, which reflect his equipment and the protection provided by his armor. He also has Compel, allowing friendly units in range 1-2 to gain a suppression token to make a free move action. Like Maul, Gar Saxon also has Allies of Convenience built into his unit card, which ensures he can always order the Mercenary forces that make up the Shadow Collective. Finally, his Westar-35 Blaster Pistol, innate surge to critical hit, and Sharpshooter 1 mean that Gar Saxon is ready to take on any challenge the enemy may present him.

Gar+Saxon+Upgrades

Like any good Mandalorian, Gar Saxon has a large number of weapon options to bring to the battlefield. With 3 red attack dice, Impact 2, and Blast, his Z-3X Jetpack Rockets are the ideal choice when fighting armored targets or picking off low-wound units. This weapon also notably has the Cycle keyword, which automatically readies the Jetpack Rockets if you did not use them during his activation. When Gar Saxon is fighting in close quarters combat or against large numbers of enemies, his ZX Flame Projector provides him a way to clear them out quickly. This weapon has the Blast, Spray, and Suppressive keywords, reflective of its fearsome power on the battlefield. If Saxon is looking for a longer range solution, his Galar-90 Rifle can more than do the job. Boasting a deadly combination of Long Shot 1, High Velocity, and Lethal 1, this rifle is perfect for finishing off fleeing units—or a pesky Prime Minister about to ruin Maul’s plans!

Gar+Saxon+Command+Cards

As a Commander of the Shadow Collective, Gar Saxon has access to a trio of new command cards to help lead his forces. Victory or Death! gives Gar Saxon and friendly special forces units Outmaneuver, as well as an aim to any unit issued an order with the card. Fight Another Day has a similar effect, but a smaller command range and dodge tokens instead of aims. Both these cards synergize with Defend 1 on the Mandalorian Super Commandos and reflect Gar Saxon’s competency as a leader. His final card, Marked for Elimination, reveals his brutal nature. Gar Saxon chooses an enemy Commander or Operative unit, giving it 4 observation and 2 suppression tokens, as well as giving himself 2 aim tokens. This gives this Mandalorian Super Commando all the support he needs to hunt down his quarry.

That’s all for our first look at Gar Saxon.
