Coven: Kickstarter läuft
Der neue Kickstarter von Footsore ist online.
Be there at the beginning when it all started…
Welcome to the world of Coven, a dark fantasy tabletop skirmish game. Welcome to the sinister forests of the Cauldron, a land steeped with eldritch power and the home of beasts and otherworldly creatures. Welcome to the domain of ancient crones, „Ved’ma“, twisted beings of great malice that can bend the very elements to do their bidding.
This project represents the combined efforts of John Wigley (Illustrator and concept artist extraordinaire of all the characters and monsters). Chris Bone (Creator of the background story and writer of fluff), Mark Farr of Footsore Miniatures & Games (Maker of the miniatures), and Award-Winning Games Designer Andy Hobday (Creator of the rules of the game). Together these talented gents have over 100 years combined experience in the world of tabletop gaming.
The Game
Coven draws upon the myths and folklore of Eastern and Central Europe. The tales of evil lurking in the dark forest. It is a blend of Slavic and Russian legends with a dash of Transylvania thrown in. We aim to bring the denizens of „The Cauldron“ to life. This project gives you the opportunity to own a rulebook crammed full of John Wigley’s incredible illustrations. It allows you to immerse yourself in the dark fantasy world of Coven and to create your band of gruesome creatures led by a powerful Ved’ma to confront your enemies on the tabletop and gain dominion over the Cauldron.
Alongside the rulebook, we’re also bringing the beginnings of a range of figures based on John’s concepts. As it is a new setting, we have chosen to start with the Ved’ma, the ancient crones of the Cauldron who are an essential element of the game.
Die Pledges:
The initial goal for this project is to fund the printing of a 200-page, softback, full-colour rulebook packed with lots of excellent artwork alongside the production of the first seven Ved’ma figures. Depending on how the project progresses, we aim to upgrade the quality of the rulebook and fund more figures as add-ons.
Stretch Goals:
The campaign goal is £15,000, which is enough to have a softback book designed, laid out and an initial print run to be ordered. This will also enable us to have production moulds made for the Ved’ma and to produce the figures. We also have Stretch Goals, both Upgrades and Add-ons lined up, ready to go, as we would like to add extra factions to the book, improve its quality, add more artwork(!) and be confident with your support we can commission more figures based on John’s artwork.
Initial stretch goals will focus on upgrading the overall quality of the rulebook and later stretch goals will add more figures.
The Artwork
Many of you may be familiar with the work of the artist John Wigley. He created some genuinely iconic work whilst working as an illustrator in the Citadel Design Studio, bringing his dark imagination to many a Warhammer Fantasy army book and most notably contributing heavily to the fantasy game of „Mordheim.“ John Wigley’s illustrations are at the heart of Coven and the inspiration for the game.
How it plays
Coven is a dark fantasy two-player skirmish game, set in the dark forests of the Cauldron. Players battle each other for supremacy with forces made up of around 15-25 figures of equal points value. These forces are led by a Ved’ma, a powerful old crone who can wield magic as if taking a breath, twisted and evil, using anything at their disposal to achieve victory. Accompanying the Ved’ma are her followers a sizeable bestiary with creatures ranging from small (25mm round bases) through medium (40mm round bases) to large (60mm round bases).
Actions during the game alternate from player to player, each taking turns to draw a token from a blind draw to see who or what can activate that turn. Using the intuitive d10 dice system, the game is won or lost by controlling Swaymarkers on the tabletop in highly narrative scenarios. Campaign play adds an extra player-driven narrative as you aid your potential friends and deny your enemies valuable resources and locations.
With magic, a massive part of Coven, the denizens of the Cauldron are masters of their craft. Firing spells at enemies or manipulating the terrain around the Ved’ma feels natural, powerful and above all satisfying. However, Everything is scared of something, and almost anything can influence a rising fear level. Control your fear and control the Cauldron!
Shipping:
We will be collecting shipping costs after the campaign finishes successfully and once you have finalised your pledges in the pledge manager. The shipping table below is included to indicate what these costs will be based on estimated product weights.
What are the advantages of the IOSS?
The IOSS facilitates the collection, declaration and payment of VAT for sellers making distance sales of imported goods to buyers in the EU. The IOSS also makes the process easier for the buyer, who is only charged at the time of purchase, and therefore does not face any surprise fees when the goods are delivered. If the value of the products exceeds €150+ the buyer has to pay the VAT and usually a customs clearance fee on receipt.
To avoid unnecessary import charges, for all EU orders:
- Keep your pledge under €150 excluding VAT and shipping
- If you want to pledge over this value email us so we can help.
