Gen Con – A Shadowy New Season of Warhammer Underworlds Revealed

Games Workshop Gen Con – A Shadowy New Season Of Warhammer Underworlds Revealed 1

The doors have opened at Gen Con 2021, one of the biggest tabletop gaming events in the world. As the crowds pour in, they’re getting a first glimpse at the future of Warhammer.

Obviously, we couldn’t let them have ALL the fun, so we’ll be here over the next few days sharing the massive reveals with you, and we’ve got some really BIG things to show you.

So grab a torch as we’re kicking things off with a peek at the shadowy core set for the new season of Warhammer Underworlds.

Let’s take a deeper dive to discover what’s coming in the new season.

Harrowdeep is the biggest ever core set for Warhammer Underworlds. With all of the boards, cards, tokens, and dice you need to get started, it’s the ideal way to jump into the new season.

Wait, did we mention that the two warbands in the box are new and incredible? Reflecting the matchups in Dominion and the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Starter Sets, Harrowdeep pits Kruleboyz orruks against the Stormcast Eternals. Each of these stunning models is a classic example of what makes their faction unique.

Emerging from the swamps are Da Kunnin’ Krew…

Think that they’re just going to be kunnin’? Don’t worry – if those extra nasty weapons are anything to go by, they’re plenty brutal too. Just look at the gnarly details in these models. We’re not going anywhere near that grabby stick – and caw, check out that raven.

Facing off against them are Xandire’s Truthseekers, a warband dispatched on a righteous mission by the God-King himself.

We don’t know exactly what Sigmar has sent them to do, but we know it’s going to be bad news for Da Kunnin’ Krew and any other warband that gets in their way.

This is the first Thunderstrike unit that we’ve seen in Warhammer Underworlds, and the dynamic poses of the models show just how ready they are to bring Sigmar’s light to the depths of Ulgu. The miniatures are absolutely packed with glorious details – did you see the celestial boar on that fella’s armour?

If you also enjoy venturing out of the underworlds into the wider Mortal Realms, Harrowdeep has you covered – these models come with rules for Warhammer Age of Sigmar too.

After two years of battling it out in the shadow of the living mountain known as Beastgrave, Warhammer Underworlds: Harrowdeep moves the action to a new shadowy location. Deep beneath the seas in Ulgu lies a  forgotten dungeon where darkness reigns supreme. There are even rules to reflect fighting in the Realm of Shadows that can shroud parts of the battlefield in gloom.

The upcoming season also introduces a new play style that lets you join in the fun straight out of the box. The new Rivals format makes Warhammer Underworlds more accessible than ever by using pre-made decks – you’ll be able to pick up a warband and jump straight in, safe in the knowledge that your deck is just as good as your opponents.

For players that enjoy toiling over the creation of the perfect deck, don’t worry – the Championship format isn’t going anywhere. Rivals is just an additional way to play that makes Warhammer Underworlds even more fun for everyone.*

Speaking of deckbuilding, Warhammer Underworlds: Harrowdeep also includes a whole host of new cards. Along with decks for the two warbands, there are universal cards and some Grand Alliance-specific ones too, which open up all sorts of new ways to construct your decks.

We’ll have more information about Warhammer Underworlds: Harrowdeep as we get closer to its release.

* Maybe we should call the new season Warhammer Funderworlds.

Gen Con – T’au Pathfinders Rumble With All-new Novitiate Sisters in the First Kill Team Expansion

Games Workshop Gen Con – T’au Pathfinders Rumble With All New Novitiate Sisters In The First Kill Team Expansion 1

This year Warhammer is back at Gen Con, the longest-running tabletop gaming event in North America, and we’re already in the convention mood with a chilling new season of Warhammer Underworlds and the reveal of Kill Team’s next starter set.

You may remember from our recent roadmap that Kill Team: Octarius is only the first major release for the brand new edition of the game, and now seems like an excellent time to lift the lid on the upcoming expansion.

Kill Team: Chalnath leaves the mayhem of the Octarius Sector for a maligned corner of Imperium Nihilus, where benighted worlds trapped behind the Great Rift lose faith in the Emperor and turn to xenos allies for salvation.

A wayward Adepta Sororitas fleet from a passing War of Faith finds itself in the Vedik System largely by chance, discovering a core world rife with xenos corruption. Among the kill teams deployed to the surface are bands of Novitiates, zealous Battle Sisters in training looking to prove themselves worthy of advancement.

These lighter-armed and armoured teams train aspirants for many of the Adepta Sororitas’ minor Orders, and they carry a wide variety of holy relics into battle.

This is a totally new kit for a Battle Sisters unit we’ve never seen before. As with the Ork Kommandos and the Death Korps of Krief before them, the Novitiates have been designed specifically for games of Kill Team, and they come with immense flexibility in terms of loadout and posing.

After being chased out of the system, the T’au return with a fleet of their own. Kill teams of specialised Pathfinders form the vanguard, using new equipment and advanced technology to undermine the Imperium’s military strength.

Pathfinders are experts at infiltration and reconnaissance. They carry high-powered weapons – which they use to spring ambushes – while drones provide accurate support at the hands of a specialist controller.

This is an update to the existing T’au Pathfinder kit, which comes with a comprehensive upgrade sprue to add a great number of options to an already-flexible squad. There are new heads, weaponry, upgrades, and all the gadgets a high-tech team of incredibly skilled operators could need.

As well as being perfect for skirmish games in the far future, you’ll also be able to deploy both of these units in full games of Warhammer 40,000.

Speaking of which…

Kill Team: Chalnath contains a full complement of Imperial ruins to fill your killzone, with plenty of Vantage Points and Obscuring terrain.

Inside the box, you’ll find a Rules Manual that includes nine new missions, covering everything from broadcasting propaganda to launching missile strikes against your opponents. The book also contains expanded rules for both squads in the box, with a whole host of bespoke Strategic Ploys, Battle Honours, and more – like we saw for the two factions in the Kill Team: Octarius launch box.
