Hello everyone!

Thanks for all your support so far. We’re in day six of the Kickstarter, and we’ve raised over £5,000. That’s no small feat! More to the point, we’ve seen loads of people talking about the game and sharing it with their friends – and the people we’ve spoken to at our demo days have been incredibly positive about the game. Thank you.

However, I’m sure you’ve noticed that campaign progress has stalled. We’re sure there are a number of reasons, and we can’t avoid the elephant in the room – we’ve felt increasingly uneasy about asking people for money to make a tabletop game when we know a lot of them are dealing with issues relating to COVID-19, whether that’s sickness, stress or financial difficulty.

We were pretty sure that was playing a role, but we didn’t think it was the full story, so yesterday morning we put out an anonymous survey asking for people’s feedback. The response was fantastic, and incredibly helpful! It seems that people generally love the gameplay and the theme, which is great – these are things we really believe in, and where we’ve got the most experience. They’re also the parts that would be the hardest to fix.

Of course, the survey was mostly meant to let us see what people didn’t like, and we’ve got some pretty unanimous feedback on a few things. Most of it was stuff we’d already come to suspect; although some of it was a bit painful to read, it gave us a very clear direction for improvement.

We’ve had a big think, and we don’t think the campaign’s going to pick up enough to fund. We could let it plod on for the next couple of weeks, or we could call it off, give the game some attention where necessary, then re-launch it having taken all of that incredibly useful feedback on board.

We think it’s pretty clear which one’s the right option.

So here’s the big announcement: we’re going to be cancelling this campaign today. Once again, thank you to everyone who’s supported us. This has been a huge learning curve, and the lessons have been plentiful. This is not the end for Robot Fight Club – in fact, we’ve already started making some exciting progress towards a revamped version that we’re sure you’ll love! It’ll be back before you know it.

In the meantime, please check out the Print & Play and Tabletop Simulator versions of the game – give ‚em a play, and let us know your feedback. (And hey, having another game to play isn’t a bad thing at the minute, with all the social distancing and self-isolation going on, right?)

We’re seeing this as a net positive, and we hope you do too. We’d love for you to follow us on the next stage of this adventure; we’ll be back in your inbox in no time!

Thanks once again,

James and Sophie (and everyone else at Needy Cat Games!)
