Dolly parts for the marauder cohorts of a Dominion Special Landing Legion. The first five cohorts of a standard legion are made up of Marauders, human warriors from outside the Dominion. They serve for 25 years and then are granted citizenship, and may retire or continue to serve, now in the senior cohorts because they are citizens — a process referred to as “aging in.” The marauder cohorts often decorate their armour, especially their helmets, with plumes to celebrate their savage background.

The last five cohorts are made up of dominion citizens. They are referred to as the senior cohorts or citizen cohorts. These soldiers are taken into Dominion service for life as boys, referred to as “adoption,” and are trained for a decade or more before first seeing service. The senior cohorts are the greatest line warriors of the Dominion. They wear the same power armour as the marauder cohorts but a distinctive, less savage, nobler helmet to signify their exalted status.

The tenth cohort is twice the size of the rest and the bravest and most cunning of the soldiers from the senior cohorts are promoted into service with the tenth cohort. Very rarely, a former marauder legionary who has earned citizenship and passed into the senior cohorts is then promoted into the tenth cohort — this is a truly extraordinary occurrence, however, because the “adopted” men of the senior cohorts are typically superior soldiers to those who “aged in” from the marauder cohorts, and when it does occur it is a source of great pride in the marauder cohorts.

The warhelm of the senior cohorts of the Dominion’s Special Landing Legions. This blank visage is the last sight many an alien or rebel ever sees before being cut in half by an energy sword or having its molecular structure rearranged by that other signature weapon of the SLLs, the PBW Mark IV.
