Sunday Preview – Underhive Brains and Underground Games
Next week brings a host of pre-orders for Necromunda and Blood Bowl, along with a new issue of White Dwarf and a very special release from Black Library.
Blood Bowl
A Grudge for the Ages
It’s an exciting time to be a Blood Bowl fan as the Second Season Edition boxed set came out recently, along with the Necromantic Horror team. Now, we have something for Skaven and Dwarf players. There’s a grudge between these two that can only be played out on the gridiron, and each team is getting a new card set and some dice to help them settle the score.
The card packs both feature reference cards for the players (including Star Players), alongside Special Play cards specific to the Dwarfs and Skaven. There are also some blank cards for you to fill in with your own players’ details, making the packs a must-have for anyone who wants to easily keep track of their team. The team-specific dice are perfect for showing your allegiance to your chosen team and will hopefully keep Nuffle on side for those crucial late-game rolls.
Also coming out next week is a rerelease of the classic Skaven and Dwarf pitch set, which features a dank cave for the Skaven on one side and a Dwarfen stadium vault on the other. It also comes with team-themed dugouts, updated to the second season style, and an optional Subterranean Weather table.
Necromunda
Van Saar Resurgent
Next week sees the release of the House of Artifice, which focuses on the members of House Van Saar, the most technologically advanced of all of the gang houses in the underhive. But that supremacy comes with a cost…
Available in both hardback and eBook versions, the House of Artifice takes a never-before-seen dive into the history and culture of the Van Saar clan. There are also new gang-specific rules, including additional fighters, alliances, and tactics.
Speaking of additional recruits, next week also sees the release of the Archeoteks and Neoteks!
The Archeoteks are respected, experienced artisans of House Van Saar. The Neoteks, on the other hand, are hot-blooded Prospects, ready to prove their mettle by putting the most dangerous technology – like their repulsor platform grav-cutters – to use in service of the gang.
You can also show pride in your house with a set of dice – the smoky, translucent dice feature the Van Saar icon on the 6 face of the D6.
There’s also a set of Gang Tactics cards for House Van Saar, so you can easily keep track of your strategies and fighters in the heat of battle. And it can get very hot in the underhive.
Black Library
Next week sees an absolutely gorgeous book from Black Library go on pre-order. The Helwinter Gate by Chris Wraight sees the Space Wolves of Járnhamar Pack forced to flee their own Chapter. Can they find the vengeance they seek and make their way back home?
This mega edition comes with a luxurious hardback copy of the book signed by the author, a bookmark, dice, dice bag, pin badge, coaster, and the 32-page Hrani’s Saga book. It’s an incredible package and is strictly limited to just 1,500 copies, so make sure you act fast if you want to get your hands on one.
White Dwarf
This month’s White Dwarf (Issue 459 for those keeping count) is packed with awesome hobby content. The fourth and final part of the inaugural Warhammer 40,000: Flashpoint sees the cardinal world of Argolish under attack, while The Tome Celestial focuses on Grimscuttle tribes. There’s also a Match Report from the new season of Blood Bowl and all of the usual fiction, features, and fun.
Gaze into the Future with the Shardspeaker of Slaanesh
The Hedonites of Slaanesh are getting ready to make power moves across the Mortal Realms, and their army includes as-yet-unseen reinforcements. Some of these Slaanesh Sybarites are also journeying to the Eightpoints, via the Agents of Chaos book for Warcry which is available for pre-order from Saturday!
We thought you’d delight in having a sneak peek at one of the support Heroes that epitomises the mysterious and unsettling nature of the Dark Prince’s mortal worshippers. Meet the Shardspeaker of Slaanesh.
While relatively free of visible corruption compared to some of the other models in the range, the Shardspeaker’s abilities are far more insidious and subtle. Using a combination of sorcerous mists and a potent magical mirror, Shardspeakers are able to twist their victims’ psyche, driving them mad and forcing them to confront and submit to their most shameful desires.
Intrigued despite yourself? Of course you are! But you’ll have to wait a little longer to learn more about these peculiar soothsayers.
A Hero of Ultramar Reborn
For nearly two decades, Captain Uriel Ventris has defended the Imperium in the pages of Graham McNeill’s Ultramarines novels. He’s survived countless battles against deadly foes and even exile into the Eye of Terror.
Now comes his greatest challenge. Here’s Graham with the details.
Get ready to cross the Rubicon Primaris with Ventris in The Swords of Calth.
A consistent theme in Graham’s novels is Ventris’ past coming back to haunt him. The Swords of Calth looks set to continue that tradition as the undying armies of the necrons rise on one of the worlds of Ultramar. See what the book’s blurb has to say.
The Swords of Calth is hitting shelves in February as part of the Black Library Celebration – and alongside the novel, you’ll be able to add Captain Uriel Ventris to your Ultramarines collection for the first time with a stunning new model!
The miniature depicts Ventris in all his Primaris glory, clad in Mark X armour and bearing all the accoutrements of his office, including the white rose of Pavonis that he earned all the way back in Nightbringer.
You can experience all of Ventris’ previous adventures in The Uriel Ventris Chronicles Volume 1 and Volume 2, each of which contains three novels from the series plus related short stories.

Haus Van Saar muss definitiv mittelfristig her. Keine Frage.
Also Ventris sieht vom Gesicht mega hässlich aus.
