Blood Red Skies – Juli Neuheiten
This month we’re also bringing to pre-order a plethora of Blood Red Skies releases, starting with the JU 88C Junkers heavy fighter squadron (as a box of six planes) you can also further bolster your collection with Ace Pilot Walter Borchers, who historically flew Me110s with ZG 76 in the early phases of the war, before later becoming part of a night-fighter squadron incorporating Ju 88C heavy fighters late in 1941.
In contrast, we’ve also brought into pre-order Soviet Union Ace Mariya Ivanovna Dolina, Deputy squadron leader of the 125th Guards bomber Aviation regiment – who began her career as a volunteer in 1941 and continued to fly well into the 70s!
To compliment our soviet ace, we are also releasing the Soviet Pe-2 bomber as flew by our ace for the first time over the skies of Stalingrad!
A truly remarkable combination for the skies!
Pe-2 Squadron – 25,00 GBP
The Pe-2 was redesigned from a high-altitude escort fighter into a dive bomber in just 45 days after word spread of Luftwaffe successes in 1940. Surprisingly, the result was a highly successful light bomber rated as one of the best ground attack aircraft of the Second World War. It was fast and manoeuvrable although lightly protected in the crew area. The Pe-2 was successively upgraded and was one of the most produced twin-engine aircraft of the war, alongside the Ju 88 and Wellington, with over 11,000 built.

Hero of the Soviet Union Mariya Ivanovna Dolina enlisted as a volunteer in the 269th Fighter Regiment in 1941 and flew 200 combat special missions in an antiquated U-2 training aircraft carrying orders, mail and medical supplies for the hard-pressed Southern Front. In 1942 she graduated to flying the fast Pe-2 twin engine bomber with the 587th Dive Bomber Regiment and her first combat mission was fought above Stalingrad. Promoted to Guard Captain, she became deputy squadron leader of the 125th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment M. Raskova, leading her comrades in 72 successful bombing operations over the Northern Caucasus, the Kuban, Crimea, Kursk, Belarus and the Baltic. Ivanovna survived the war and continued to serve in the Soviet Air Force into the 1970s.

The Ju 88C worked in multiple roles throughout the war including ground attack as a fighter-bomber, bomber-destroyer, intruder, maritime long range escort and strike aircraft.

Walter Borchers flew Me110s with ZG 76 in the early phases of the war, scoring 10 victories in the aerial battles over France and Britain in 1940. Borchers’ unit was made into a night-fighter squadron incorporating Ju 88C heavy fighters for the Defence of the Reich late in 1941, although Borchers didn’t score his first nocturnal victory until March 1943. His tally rose swiftly after that, including several American four-engine heavy bombers. Borchers’ victories rose to 46 in total by March 1945. Shortly after claiming his 46th enemy near Altenburg he was shot down and killed by an RAF Mosquito night-fighter.
