Augurs and Lucius Tarquinius Superbus
Hi All,
There is no rest for the wicked, as they say, and if that is true then Stavros must be a wicked man indeed! He has been slaving away at his workbench, bringing the final few sets of our planned Etruscan range together.
The figures being previewed this week are a set of 2 Augurs,. and a famous Etruscan Hero – Lucius Tarquinius Superbus. Lucius was the last Etruscan King of Rome, before the people of that city ejected him and set themselves up as a Republic (Res Publica – ‚of the people‘ or ‚public affair‘). He tried hard to re-establish himself several times, but to no avail. While I was tempted to ask Stavros to sculpt a more well known figure from Etruscan History (Larth Porsenna) I thought Lucius ‚The Proud‘ might be more fun! He will also be accompanied by a chariot, as befitting a King.
The Augurs were a constant feature of Etruscan society, along with the Haruspices. While a Haruspex divined the future form the entrails of animals, the Augurs divined the will of the Gods from the flights of birds. The sky was traditionally divided into quadrants, and where and how the birds flew (and what type of bird they were) would reveal the divine. No self respecting Etruscan would be without his seers, especially not a King!
These chaps will make perfect additions for you Mortal Gods Lochoi or Clash of Spears factions hopefully!
As always, I hope you enjoy them and stay safe!
Cheers
Greg
