Mid Thirteenth Century German knights. As can be seen by close examination, the big difference was the coat of plates, a sort of leather apron with small steel plates bolted in. Because they wore this, German knights usually wore their surcoat under the chainmail hauberk (which they still wore) instead of over it, as did other knights.
Not all Germans wore this, and not all knights who wore it were Germans, especially as the century wore on when it was adopted across Europe. These will be part of our 13th Century range, which I’m going to have to release soon, paintups or not!
