Artis Opus: Series D Pinsel Kickstarter
We are proud to now launch our third brush range, Series D.
The D, of course, stands for DRY-BRUSH!
In its most simple form, dry-brushing is a painting technique that utilises the texture and volume of a model to pick up paint and highlight prominent details.
This project is the result of questioning traditional tools and methods. For the first time ever, an alternatively designed drybrush has been produced purely for miniature painting. Series D rethinks and redefines drybrushing from the ground up.
Working in conjunction with two prolific and decorated painters and dry-brushing specialists, David Soper and Bohun, we are proud to have produced the finest quality dry-brushes that the miniature painting industry has ever seen.
After 4 years of R&D, we are excited to finally bring you Series D: the rebirth of the dry-brush.
With Series D brushes, you can achieve:
- Smoother volumes and flat areas
- Perfect stippling, using the round head’s natural fade toward the edges
- ‘Edge highlighting’ with minimal paint transfer on surrounding areas
- More delicate dry-brushing, allowing for more subtlety, and looking after your models!
Heads
Series D features rounded brush heads, rather than flat. This fundamental change allows detail to be picked up from any direction, with brush strokes passing in any direction, rather than only with linear use. They also wear down, not out, and don’t fray. I.e. these brushes break in, rather than breaking. This helps you achieve better results, with a longer lasting brush, which ages with dignity, wearing to fit the user’s style.
Handles
Series D’s chunky and short handles allow for maximum control, application and comfort. Much like our traditional brushes, this wider than normal grip helps avoid „painter’s cramp“ over prolonged use.
Hair
Series D brushes are produced with finest quality, densely packed, premium grade hair. Not the rough, coarse hair usually associated with dry-brushes. This helps paint transfer, and also assists with cleaning and durability.
Dampening Pot
Our range of Technical Dry Brushes also include a dampening pot which when combined with our new dry brushing technique unlocks more variation and control without risk of saturating the brush and decreasing life expectancy.
Solid Wooden Box
Made from solid beech, our box is picked for its simplicity and beauty. Both classic and practical, it is able to withstand the wear sustained in travel or transport, while keeping your brushes secure and safe. Our unique foam insert firmly grips brushes. Widened chambers along with „grippy“ brush protectors ensure that the brush-heads are kept in pristine condition.
Soap
Handmade like our brushes, our soap gently cleans and conditions brushes, removing even the most stubbornly ingrained paint. Sandalwood scented (in contrast to the Bergamot scent in Series S & Cherry in Series M).

Production has already begun for a number of brush sets, but we simply don’t know what the demand will be for this project. It is likely that the first batch will disappear fast, and further batches will take a little longer to produce. Therefore we have decided to give early backers a head-start, in the form of limited „early shipping“ pledge levels.
It is essential that every brush set is the highest of quality. Higher volume will require further production runs and will mean longer production lead-times, as well as a longer quality control process. Simply put, the earlier you pledge, the earlier you will receive your brushes.
