„Batman (Zero Year)

Zero Year is the period when Bruce Wayne donned the mask and became Batman. He was less comfortable, less aware of his own methods and quite the indomitable hero he’d later become. Zero Year also refers to a lost time in Gotham’s history after a devastating flood. The city became vulnerable and for several months, the city fell under the control of the Riddler.

If was also during this time that the original Red Hood fell into a tank of chemicals and became the Joker. Adding further relevance to this period is the time this beginner Batman confronted the terrible Doctor Death for the first time.

Under the dictatorship of the Riddler, the outskirts of Gotham were abandoned and vegetation invaded the streets. Living on the fringes and deprived of his usual high tech equipment, Batman adopted more rudimentary tools of the trade such as a bow and arrows in his quest to free the city from Edward Nigma.

In this version, Bruce Wayne could not count on any allies. There was not yet a Robin or a Batgirl. The only possible help came from the ever-faithful Alfred. It was only towards the end of Zero Year that Jim Gordon lit the first Bat-Signal and that Gotham Police started calling Batman for help.“
