What’s not to love about the Franco-Dutch War? It was a huge conflict fought 1672-78, as far afield as New York City (!!!) but centered on two main fields of war — central and Western Europe, where the French first tackled the Dutch and then ended up fighting virtually everyone, and northeastern Europe where the Swedes were in the same situation as the French. It was the war in which Turenne and the Great Conde campaigned together (!!!) and Prussia as a great military power was born on the field of Fehrbellin.
From a military perspective it’s like soldiers in early eighteenth century costume are fighting with English Civil War tactics — 1/3 pike, 2/3 matchlock muskets, bayonets being something you stuck into the gun barrel instead of on its side.
What’s not to love about THAT? I liked the period so much, I bought the company. (American advert humor.) A complete range is on the way. Here’s the artillery set, painted as Dutch.
