Einen Dungeon aus Hexfeldern zum selber ausdrucken, das soll mit dem Kickstarter von Axolote Gaming realisiert werden.
Axolote Hex: 3d hex dungeons
3d printable files for hex based dungeons, compatible with Fantasy RPG, Gloomhaven and Shadespire.
About
Gloomhaven Scenario 1 – Miniatures are property of Cephalofair Games
3d printable hex tiles, perfectly compatible with Gloomhaven or any RPG, as well as Shadespire and other hex based games by scaling up the tiles.
Adventuring in multiple universes often takes us to fantastic places, 3d printing has made it possible to bring the worlds from our imaginations to the table. There are already many systems which create fantastic dungeons, caverns, towns and forests; however all of these systems use square based grids. Squares are very good for some things, making a rectangular room is easier to imagine than adding walls to a hex grid, however this set has a new way to make easy walls while also taking the many advantages of a hex grid which are:
- No diagonal movement – fair and more natural movement
- 1 hex based module – more configurations and more possible builds
- Adjacency – No diagonal attacks, every slot available to attackers is clear
- Natural Formations – Hexes present a more natural shape so they adapt better to natural formations
- Irregular Rooms – whenever there is a skew wall squares tend to have too much unused space, with hex grids you can do walls in every 8 directions with our wall system.
- Easier Spells – some spells have a much easier way to calculate the appropriate area of effect.
These are only some of the advantages, if you want to convert to hex d20SRD has some other pointers.
This set uses Printable Scenery’s Openlock design. Their design is well known and has been open from the get-go, this has let a ton of people grow the community and make some incredible designs. If you like this set please visit their page to look at what they have. I am also working on a solution to make the sets more compatible and have some connection tiles, go from squares to hexes!
Texture Sets
This campaign has 4 base sets, and one trap and decoration bundle, Most of the sets include at least 1 tile per available frame, one wall per wall length and a column. Most have more options that will be listed below.
The Dungeon Set has a complete set, plus some extra broken walls and floors with moss and a more broken stone.
The Cave set has extra wall textures to make your caverns look more realistic.
The Tavern set has an extra set of „inn“ walls with stucco to give some wall variety.
The Grassland set has 3 full sets of floors, grass, mixed and dirt, this way you can make roads and transition tiles easily.
With over 45 different decorations and traps, this is the perfect addition to liven up your dungeons and make them look more populated. includes some tiles that snap on to the frame system.
Pledge Levels
This campaign has only 4 different pledge levels and they are all pretty easy to understand.
Add-ons
All add-on sets are affected by stretch goals! This means that they will be as big as the core sets and that they are growing as we unlock more stretch goals!
Lava Pools, Molten Rock and Boulder Cave Walls
Water, Ice and Crystal Cave and Water Transition Tiles for every Set
Stretch Goals
If you have been with me on my other campaigns you know how stretch goals work. otherwise here is a small description. Most stretch goals unlock content for EVERY texture set, so you will be getting at least 4 more files per stretch goal broken. Some will have less but on very specific circumstances. I will upload stretch goals as we break them, but limited to once daily, to let my artist catch up, so that means there will be more updates even on slow days to catch up with the first few days of campaign.
*All double height walls, are going to be cut down to be used as 1“ walls as well, so the set is focused on that height which is more game-friendly. However we want to also be able to to multi-level eventually, so here is where the „double height“ walls will shine.

Delivery
The base sets, as well as the Traps and Decor set will be uploaded as soon as the funds are collected (two weeks after the KS ends) that way you can get started printing frames and also all you need to play Gloomhaven (in case that is why you joined this campaign).
After that every stretch goal will take one extra week and will be delivered in a monthly bundle (depending on how many SG are broken), there will be an update twice a month, one to show the work in progress and one to show the full set and let backers know that the updated files are up.
This way of delivery should be smoother than what i have done in the past where i have tried weekly uploads that ultimately mess up my work schedule and i cant keep up. The workload is the same but this way I can get everything done faster in the month and then iron out the issues before actually uploading things.

Everything printed and tested for this KS was done with .25 mm layers (250 microns) all of the fitting parts and thresholds were done with this measurements. In order to get better results please use intervals of this measurement (125 microns for double quality) most printers should be able to handle that measurement.
- Material – PLA
- Layers – 250 microns
- Extruder Temp – 205 C
- Bed Temp – 50 C
- Speed – 50 mm/s
New to 3d printing?
If you are new to 3d printing there are many sources to get more information and get started. If you want to start with a low budget and go from there I recommend the Creality3d Ender 3. It is a sub $200 printer, it does come in a kit and will require you to build it, I built my first printer with little knowledge and just following the instructions.
If your budget allows for more i would go for a Prusa i3 Mk3, this printer has incredible quality out of the box and a number of great features to get better quality and better prints in general.

Risks and challenges
The biggest risk with this as well as all of my other KS is that it grows too big for me to handle it (i mostly work alone). However as stated before on my campaigns i have some friends that could help me in case the workload becomes too big.
