Age of Sigmar Realm War

Pixel Toys, the developers of the multi-award-winning Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade, are excited to announce Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War! Set in the war-torn Mortal Realms in the Age of Sigmar, the game is a real-time action battler where you build your forces from a variety of units and abilities.

“We’ve been working on this game for some time and are huge fans of Age of Sigmar. Many of us devs in the studio collect armies, and we’ve really been pouring our enthusiasm into the project for well over a year now. Balancing the gameplay of units in the game has been fun, as everyone has their favourite factions and units! We think it’s going to be one of the best-looking and best-playing games on mobile and we hope you guys have as much fun playing it as we had making it (so far)!” – Pixel Toys

You will fight for supremacy against countless other powerful warlords across the globe, testing your fingertip strategies against theirs.Commanding mighty generals from the Grand Alliances of Order, Chaos, Destruction and Death, including the mighty Gordrakk, Fist of Gork and Neferata, the Mortarch of Blood, you will build your warbands to lead into battle, deploying a wide array of loyal troops, powerful heroes, epic summons and mystical magical abilities.

Pixel Toys bring the realms and characters of Warhammer Age of Sigmar to life in a way never seen before: gallant Tempestors charging across the plains of Ghur, sinister Morghast Harbingers swooping across the steel skies of Chamon, a crazed Grot Warboss stomping through subterranean Shyish – all spectacularly created with the cutting-edge graphics and audio for which Freeblade is so well renowned.

Generals and heroes have game-changing abilities such as the legendary Neferata stealing the life-force of her enemies using Feaster of Souls, or the wizened Grey Seer, Skweek Gnawtail, unleashing a tide of Clanrats across the battlefield using the power of the Vermintide. With an ever-growing roster of units to deploy and realms to discover, the game will continue to expand with special events, community activities and quests, and achievements to unlock. The game is due for release in early Autumn on iOS and Android. We will bring you more news and insider information as we get closer to launch.

Heroes of the Nighthaunt

Battletome: Nighthaunt is coming – and with it, three terrifying, never-before-seen named characters from the Mortal Realms. Each of these sinister champions was once a citizen of the Mortal Realms, their souls now twisted in service to the Grand Necromancer. As Nagash prepares to conquer the Mortal Realms, we’d be very surprised if we don’t see a lot more of all three both in the lore and on the tabletop.

Today, we’re taking a closer look at the new Nighthaunt Heroes – and we’re checking out Reikenor the Grimhailer for the first time ever!

AoS Previews 007

Crowned Mortarch of Grief by Nagash, it is Lady Olynder who has united the previously disparate spirits, gheists and wraiths of the Mortal Realms into a single, terrifying army. Once a usurper who tricked her way into power, she now is filled with a singular, unbearable misery that she can wield as a deadly weapon – even the bravest struggle to stand before her.

AoS Previews 08

What Does She Do?

Lady Olynder helps your army do what it does best – grind the enemy down through attritional warfare. You’ll win with Nighthaunt not by shattering your opponent in a single turn, but by playing the long game, using your units’ inherent resilience, not to mention abilities that sustain and heal them, to outlast your enemies.

Every one of Lady Olynder’s abilities plays into this principle. Mortarch of Grief – which means more models flee from battleshock when near Olynder – makes chipping away at hordes that much easier, while Wail of the Damned inflicts a deluge of mortal wounds on nearby units – enough to force multiple battleshock tests in a single turn. Lifting the Veil and Grave-sands of Time, meanwhile, allow you to face down particularly troublesome enemy units while lending Lady Olynder some extra sustainability.

AoS Previews 09

By using the No Rest For the Wicked command ability, you’ll be able to keep your units in fighting shape for longer, particularly if you’re taking hordes of durable, multiple-wound models like Hexwraiths and Spirit Hosts, while finally, the Grief-stricken spell is a great counter to any enemies that have over-invested in a single, deadly unit.

When it all comes together, it’s nothing short of terrifying on the tabletop. Lady Olynder becomes a deadly nexus for your army, steadily and inexorably wearing down the foe while keeping your forces fresh and ready to fight.

AoS Previews 10

In life, Kurdoss Valentian was a ruthless betrayer who killed, deceived and betrayed his way to the throne – well, almost! At the moment of his crowning, Nagash struck Kurdoss dead and took his soul, granting him great power yet also cursing him to never know true rulership. Ever betrothed to Lady Olynder, Kurdoss will never, ever, be king – his title is a cruel jest on behalf of Nagash. Even his heralds mock and goad their lord, crying his wicked deeds and defamatory titles for all to hear – appellations such as Usurper, False Lord and Craven King.

AoS Previews 11

What Does He Do?

Kurdoss is a bruiser in close combat, boasting 5 Attacks with an excellent Rend of -2 and D3 (or, if you’re lucky, D6) Damage each, making him a pretty scary prospect in close combat, even to the most heavily armoured foes. Suffer No Rival is where Kurdoss really shines, re-rolling failed hit rolls against your enemy general, making him really useful for assassinating other Heroes – and that’s before you factor in the various synergies available to Nighthaunt forces.

AoS Previews 12

Even when he’s not smashing apart enemy generals, Kurdoss is punishing against armies that rely on their command abilities, not only denying them one command point on a successful 5+ roll each turn, but adding the stolen point to your own tally! Kurdoss and Olynder make a great tag team, with Olynder having strong effects that last throughout the game and Kurdoss acting as a scalpel to remove the most powerful foes, while hurting your enemy’s ability to react.

AoS Previews 13

Reikenor was once a sorcerer-king with a mastery of light magic who worked to defeat mortality itself, gathering many acolytes and followers to his cause. Reikenor had nearly unparalleled knowledge of the energies of Shyish, but apparently not enough to know that what he was doing was likely to attract the attention of Nagash. Now, he works as an executioner, hunting those who would deny the Grand Necromancer his due…

AoS Previews 14

What Does He Do?

So Lady Olynder is a Wizard who specialises in supporting your army, and Kurdoss Valentian is a close-combat specialist – but what about someone that could do a bit of both? Reikenor the Grimhailer is your guy (or ghost). Reikenor really shines in the Hero phase with his Corpse Candles ability. Sometimes, you really, really need a spell to go off – maybe there’s an enemy Hero who’s just asking to be suddenly and violently acquainted with the Purple Sun of Shyish, or perhaps you’ve got a combo in mind and you don’t want it to be unbound. Corpse Candles lets you do just that – and you can even use it to harm your enemies!

AoS Previews 15

You’ll want to use Reikenor to clear out hordes, with his Reaped Like Corn ability helping him plough through larger enemy units, and Wraithstorm, a unique spell which works particularly well against units of models with a single Wound each. Lastly, Reikenor lends himself to themed Nighthaunt armies really well. If you want to field a full force of spectral cavalry, having him lead a charging mass of Hexwraiths and Black Coaches would be a fun, distinctive and powerful force on the tabletop.

Where Do I Get These Guys?

You won’t have to wait too long! Lady Olynder and Battletome: Nighthaunt are available to pre-order this weekend, while Reikenor the Grimhailer and Kurdoss Valentian, the Craven King will be available soon after. All you’ll need is an army for them to lead – find yours in the Soul Wars boxed set, available to pre-order now.

AoS Previews 16

New Heroes of the Stormcast Eternals

Battletome: Stormcast Eternals is packed with new lore, art and, of course, rules that bring Sigmar’s chosen warriors to life as never seen before, with a closer look at the newly opened Sacrosanct Chambers – and its foremost champions. Today, we’re taking a look at both of these named characters in detail, with lore, warscrolls, and a look at their rather excellent new models! We’ll dive right in…

AoS Previews 19

Astreia Solbright works with the foremost Sacrosanct Chamber of the Hammers of Sigmar – the Shimmersouls – to search for a cure to the flaw that is slowly eroding the souls of the Stormcast Eternals. On her quest, she has hunted countless ostensibly immortal creatures to unlock their secrets, having come into conflict with the vampires of Shyish on countless occasions. Originally a magus of light from Hysh, she now turns her mastery of magic and spirit-science to the aid of Azyr, bringing death to the deathless in search of liberation for her brethren.

AoS Previews 17

What Does She Do?

Astreia Solbright is an effective and highly flexible option for a Stormcast Eternals army, providing all manner of bonuses to your forces. If you’re fielding a force from the Sacrosanct Chambers, you’ll find her range of powers great for both supporting your forces and bringing the fight to the foe. Astreia’s command ability is incredibly versatile, working to support a range of Sacrosanct Chambers units, much like the Lord-Arcanum from the Soul Wars boxed set. By using her in your army, you’ll have the flexibility to adjust your tactics as the situation demands – from ensuring that a key Empower goes off to supercharging a unit of Sequitors in the combat phase.

AoS Previews 20

You’ll want to field Astreia on the front lines of your army, and not just so she’s in range of the rest of your Sacrosanct Chambers units! Lightning Pulse, Astreia’s unique spell, is punishing against foes fielding multiple smaller units (like Nighthaunt armies with all those Heroes!) while her ability to re-roll charges thanks to her Dracoline and the additional damage from the Dracoline’s monstrous claws when she does so makes her pretty deadly.

AoS Previews 21

Aventis Firestrike was once a battlemage of the Agloraxi Empire that ruled the Great Parch, thrust into war by the coming of Khorne. Mastering pyroclastic sorceries in his search for revenge, his vengeful rampage was only ended after he has incinerated scores of the Khorne Bloodbound who defiled his home. Reforged as a Lord-Arcanum, Aventis has returned to his ancestral home in Aqshy as the Grand Magister of Hammerhal – he will not stand to see Chaos take another city, and has vowed not to rest until he has taken a traitor’s life for every citizen of the Great Parch that died during the notorious Red Century…

AoS Previews 18

What Does He Do?

Aventis Firestrike is the ultimate Sacrosanct Chambers Wizard, offering loads of benefits to your army (as well as looking awesome). As you’d expect, Aventis is armed with a host of magical powers that make him a very useful unit in any Stormcast Eternals army. Pyroelectric blast, his unique spell, works much like Arcane Bolt, but can be used to catch several units at once – you’ll want to use his mobility to get him into position and hit as many foes as possible. Even Aventis’s Arcane Bolts are deadlier than usual – being inherently linked to a realm of pure storm-magic will do that…

Aventis isn’t just a powerful Wizard but a deadly combatant in melee, too – as you’d perhaps expect of a 7-foot tall revenant forged from raw azyrite energy mounted on a massive celestial beast. With no fewer than 8(!) attacks in close combat between the Staff of Hammerhal and his Tauralon’s Horns and Stamping Hooves, he’ll be able to quickly demolish in close combat any foe he hasn’t already obliterated with magic.

AoS Previews 22

Aventis is a pretty scary prospect defensively, too – your enemy is going to have to make a serious effort to displace him, and quite possibly take quite a bit of damage doing it too. With a 3+ save and 10 Wounds, and the ability to heal 1 wound every turn from his Thunderhead Crown, he’s tough, while the Righteous Indignation rule deals mortal wounds to those foes who’d dare wound this magnificent magus. Last, but very far from least, Aventis Firestrike has an incredible command ability, providing a flat increase on rolls to wound for some friendly Hammers of Sigmar. Whether used on Aventis himself to further increase his prowess or to bulk up a unit of Sequitors, it’ll allow you to plan some deadly command ability combos.

You’ll be able to get your hands on both these guys before too long – keep your eyes on Warhammer Community for more updates! In the meantime, if you missed our preview of the new Nighthaunt Heroes, check it out in yesterday’s battletome preview, while if you’re looking to start an army of the Sacrosanct Chambers, there’s no better place to begin than with the Soul Wars boxed set.
