Immortal Figures: Gods of Olympus Tabletop Gaming Miniatures
Highly quality 28/32 mm scale tabletop gaming miniatures based on the Gods and Goddesses of Greek Mythology.
Introduction
Immortal Figures: Gods of Olympus is a set of high quality tabletop gaming miniatures based on the Gods and Goddesses of Greek Mythology. The core set consists of 12 wonderfully detailed figures scaled for 28/32 mm gaming. The figures are designed not only as fun additions to a role-playing or tabletop game, but for general imaginative play and education as well. In addition to the core set, we are also preparing multiple stretch goal figures in the event that we are able to exceed our funding goal on this project.
What Will We Do With Your Support
This campaign is being presented by Immortal Figures LLC. While the primary goal of this project is to obtain enough funding to get these figures created and distributed to the people who want them, we also have four plans for funding if the campaign is successful: (1) Create a more professional presentation package for the core set so it can be distributed in stores and at conventions; (2) expand the core set to include more mythological figures, including the Titans, minor deities and demi-gods (some of which will be reflected in our stretch goals); (3) set up a plan to eventually bring figure manufacturing in-house to mass produce them at a lower cost; and (4) start creating our second planned set which will deal with the Gods of Asgard and other Norse deities. Essentially, every dollar we make on this project will either go to producing our backer rewards or bringing more figures to life.
Digital Art Booklet
The digital art booklet contains a collection of production sketches and other materials that were used to design the figures in this collection. It will also include additional information about what went into their creation. All backers, regardless of pledge amount, will receive a copy of this reward via email.
The 2D figure designs featured in the digital art book were created by Chiara Mazzone Colonna. Chiara was a valuable part of this project and was able to expertly craft multiple designs for the characters by combining multiple sources, ranging from ancient Greek statues to renaissance paintings. She graduated from the Art Academy of Naples with a Masters Degree in digital coloring. She is an accomplished digital colorist, painter, illustrator and art teacher. She has participated in several group exhibitions in Italy, among others “Vie di Fuga” in Castel dell’Ovo in Naples.
The Miniatures
The 12-figure core set consists of the following figures:
When designing these figures, we wanted them to reflect the interpretations of these characters as portrayed in classical literature, like Homer’s Iliad, and artwork. Whether that meant including elements like the Apple of Discord, the Shield Aegis, the Helm of Hades and Argus transformed, or taking inspiration from ancient sculptures and the works of Botticelli and Goya, we wanted something interesting in every figure. We also didn’t want to create hyper stylized versions of the characters. No Hades or Ares in giant demon armor or Athena and Hera in skimpy outfits. We wanted the figures to have very few modernized elements.
Once the figures were designed, we needed to find a way to produce them without sacrificing the detail that we put into their creation. We experimented with multiple different production methods and materials. Many of these figures involve smaller elements which don’t always survive the production process as intended, or at all. After many rounds of prototyping and figure redesign we arrived on a United States based manufacturer that uses a UV LED based 3D printing process and a liquid polymer that is able to effectively balance rigidity and functionality properties. The results are figures that maintain all of the details we wanted, without being too rigid to make smaller or thinner elements unfeasible.
The figures themselves are scaled for 28/32 mm gaming. Of course, since the gods stood taller than mortals we opted for making them on average about 42 mm in height (the attached based is 1″ in diameter). While it would have been nice to scale them with 100% accuracy to their portrayals in the Iliad and the Odyssey, that would have required making them about 3-5 feet tall, which, sadly, would have limited their use. As shown above, the final figures will be in a very dark grey, almost black, color, which provides a perfect base for painting.
Below are larger pictures of the figures along with details about their myths and legends that were swirling through our heads when designing them.
The Stretch Goals
Stretch goal figures begin to unlock if we are able to exceed our campaign goals. Once a stretch goal is unlocked, backer Levels II-IV can add them to their order by increasing it by $5 per figure (additional shipping is not required).
We have already prepared the initial designs for our first four stretch goal figures. However, we have basic concept designs ready for at least a dozen more that we will begin posting if it looks like we might reach them. Our current additional designs include Hestia, Hyperion, Nemesis, Prometheus, Hecate, Hebe, Morpheus and Atlas. We also have one for Arachne that I really hope we get to produce because, well, we love it ever so much.
We haven’t determined an order on the stretch goal figures beyond the first four, so if this project is able to exceed those goals, your comments on what you would like to see next will shape what we offer.
Shipping
We are charging a flat shipping rate of $5.00 for orders within the United States and $15 for orders outside. In addition, the shipping cost remains the same regardless of the amount of stretch goal figures you purchase.
Production Time
Once the campaign ends it will take about 4-6 weeks to produce the first approximate thousand figures, and, if applicable, about four weeks to product the next 1,000, and so on. Once the figures are complete there will be an additional 1 week for shipping to our Seattle location and then another 1-2 weeks for packing. Figures will be shipped out to backers on a first pledge first reward fulfill basis. As such, the first figures will likely ship within 1.5 to 2 months. Keep in mind, we are giving ourselves some wiggle room with these dates so it is very possible that the production time will be quicker and, if so, the rewards will be shipped sooner.
Thanks again for checking out our project and we appreciate your support.
Risks and challenges
The core 12-figure set has been fully designed with multiple rounds of prototyping. A production facility has already been retained to produce these figures at a predetermined costs with logistics already worked out. The only minor issues we foresee at this point have to do with the Hera figure (which may require replacement of her peacock feather with a staff) and the Artemis figure (which may require slight changes to her pose). Other minor changes could potentially be required during the production run.
In regards to the stretch goal figures, they have been designed using the same process as the core set. Once the figures are unlocked, we intend to run several rounds of prototyping on the figures before we finalize the designs and ship them to our backers. We will be doing this in tandem with the initial production run so we anticipate stretch goals shipping at the same time as core figures.
Of course there are always unexpected challenges that could occur in this process. If they occur we will do our best to ensure that all pledge rewards are satisfied.
