Trained as infiltration units, the Aterides are the Ares light infantry units.

After the emancipation wars against the Operators, the Ares army was in need of a rapid response unit capable of being deployed in short time and that could be easily transported. A new unit to combat new threats.

The Riff organism is a perfect example of adaptation to the environment. In the early days of the empire’s expansion, the Riffs who lived in systems with more aggressive solar radiation levels began to evolve with larger, more resilient bodies. The Berserkers are proof of this. Born on planets that would be mortal to man, this unit constitutes the evolutionary perfection of the Riff empire.

Ishann is a curious case in the Ares condominium. Although his behavior as a soldier was equal to or better than his peers, his superiors realized he was an exceptional soldier.

During a battle in Military Haszen territory, Ishann was lost and could not reach the extraction point, being trapped in enemy territory.

Six months later he appeared at an Ares outpost after stealing a ship from the enemy. His talent for camouflage and combat abilities managed to keep him alive on the battlefield no matter how bad the odds were against him. His ability to go unnoticed made him lethal in combat and Ares high command decided to use his skills to create a unit that exploited that.

The Ares are fearsome when you find them in front of you, but if they appear at your back you have no chance.

Jeri Hansen was the seventh child out of nine. A star pupil and she excelled at gymnastics too. She was the star flag twirler for her college gymnastic team, no one could match her grace and cat like reflexes. But that afternoon at the colony stadium everything was so fast not even she could react.

She was struck by some kind of stunning beam and fell immediately to the ground. A blurred shape was before her, as her eyes began to focus she saw a mechanical body looking down at her with eyes glowing red. Once Jeri was fully awake and aware she realized everybody surrounding her was dead. Thousands of them.

“Please designate your identity.”, she heard in her head. “Are you going to kill me too?” “No, you are a valuable exception. Please designate your identity.”

She said nothing. All she could think of was that her family and relatives were probably among the dead bodies. The metallic voice then said:

“Despair is now your designated identity, prepare for orders.”

But she wasn’t prepared for the pain that followed.

In Sayx society, where each individual comes into the world pre-programmed for a specific task, it is unusual for a citizen to leave the easy road and try to get through the effort of learning about a field that is not his. That is the case of Bianca Carlson.

Bianca had always been small for her age, skinny and slim, virtues that are not usually good for a soldier. Life at the academy was quite difficult and even though she managed to endure the training just like her more rugged companions, soon she had to start using her ingenuity to pass tests than other members of the academy performed merely with physical strength. The tricks and ingenuity applied by Bianca allowed her to finish her training as a Sayx soldier, but were not enough to pass the final test which exceeded her physical abilities.

Defeated and angry Bianca left the facility where she had conducted the entrance test for the Sayx troops, when she heard the sound of someone approaching her clapping. It was Tarko, who had been taking care of her since she was 16 years old when her father died.

“Why are you clapping uncle Tarko? I have failed…”

“I wouldn’t be so sure of that…” Tarko reached out, giving Bianca a brown folder with a stamp reading „Confidential“ in red on the cover.

„Nightstalker Infiltration Corps? What is this?“ Bianca asked.

„Sounds like the kind of work that someone with your training skills could do, don´t you think?“

Sgt. Sihlas Fenn is a well respected and renowned noncommissioned officer in the Riff military. Upon the arrival of the survivors from Chook Mul, Sihlas was tasked with the duty of discovering the events that took place and how the survivors escaped the genocide, more specifically one survivor, Fink Dradd. Sgt. Sihlas Fenn tested Fink’s combat abilities and found him to be worthy and requested Fink be assigned to his Riff Berserker unit for the retaking of Chook Mul.

During the campaign for Chook Mul, Sihlas’s unit gained the reputation of being the most influential and brutal unit of the entire army, his name inspired both fear and respect. After the retaking of the planet Sihlas requested Fink join the expedition fleet to Hextrom IV. Together they were needed there more than anywhere.
