We’re rebooting one of the most awesome techno-fantasy miniatures boardgames of all time, Siege of the Citadel. First seen in the 1990s this new edition is bringing together an A-List design team who are updating and balancing not only the rules, but also the new miniatures and tiles.
Richard Borg was the lead designer on the 1st Edition of Siege of the Citadel, now he’s joined by a hit squad to bring this new edition growling to life!
The design team is joined by DoomTrooper Henning Ludvigsen (Imperial Assault, Descent, Blood Rage, Mansions of Madness) whose mighty pen drew the dreaded walls of the Citadel and has brought new throbbing life to the halls of Alakhai, even penning the missing 8 halls of the Citadel.
We have funded the core game and now unveiled the two major expansions The Brotherhood and Luna City – now included in the $149 Pledge which together with other unlocks give you a total of 91 new miniatures!

Originally published by Pressman Toys in the 1990s, Siege of the Citadel was one of the first games of its kind to offer many unique elements, including innovative features such as co-operative play, character development and the rotation of the Dark Legion player. Conceived by Sweden’s gaming powerhouse Target Games, Siege of the Citadel had television advertising in the US and hundreds of gamers still own much loved copies across the world.
Siege of the Citadel is set in the universe of Mutant Chronicles, created by Target Games, one of the bigger names in gaming in the 1990’s. Target released the DoomTrooper collectible card game and translated it into 16 languages, three boardgames, a SNES and Mega Drive DoomTrooper video game, Comic Book miniseries and graphic novel from Acclaim Comics, the massive Warzone miniatures game, the Mutant Chronicles 1st and 2nd Edition roleplaying games, a Hollywood movie, Fantasy Flight Games‘ pre-painted miniature game plus – of course – the rebooted Warzone miniatures game and 3rd edition roleplaying game.
The Mutant Chronicles story took you on this full throttle dieselpunk sci-fi ride through a solar system beset by corporate intrigue and the invasion of a terrible dark alien force. With technology failing due to the insidious effects of the Dark Symmetry humankind must fight back against the Dark Legion hordes whilst dealing with in-fighting and conspiracy from within.
The Solar System is a roaring mayhem of death and war. The surfaces of the inner planets have been swept clean by the violent onslaught of the dark legions storming hordes of Nepharites, Razides, Pretorian Stalkers and Undead Legionaries. In the enormous cities of the far and distant future, heretics devoted to the destruction of humankind stalk the dark backstreets and gloomy alleys spreading their teachings of greed, jealously and war!
The Siege of the Citadel takes place during one of the great wars against the Dark Legion as humanity musters the greatest army ever under Cardinal Durand and the DoomTroopers of the Cartel. The stage is set for the final conflict as the DoomTroopers assault Alakahi’s Citadel on Venus, the greatest of the Dark Legion citadels spewing foul legions of terror across the planets of the Solar System.
Siege of the Citadel was one of the first games to use co-operative play, a rotating Dark Legion player, plastic character boards and track character progression between games.
Here’s a mockup of the new character board which controls two heroes allied to one of the Mutant Chronicles factions: Bauhaus, Imperial, Capitol, Mishima or Cybertronic. As the team progress they get to roll better quality Attack Dice for things like Attacks and other new actions.
Players select one of five factions (each with a unique Faction ability) with two figures representing a team. Four players will co-operative on the mission, whilst the fifth player takes their turn playing the Dark Legion forces arrayed against them. In the next mission, another player takes over the Dark Legion and so on.
Characters have 5 wounds, but their team shares Promotional Points which are now tracked in units of 10 and through Rank cards which are changed as the heroes increase in experience. Teams have secret Secondary Missions which can often be at odds with the rest of the teams in the game, and special DoomTrooper cards give momentary boosts or tactical advantages.
As players take it in turns to play the Dark Legion they get to control the vast Citadel of Alakhai, its defences and the terrifying creatures ready to do battle with humankind. Each turn they will summon reinforcements, play Event cards to further challenge the DoomTroopers and try to defeat their friends with forces of the Dark Legion. In a cruel twist, if the Dark Legion player does well at this role, his DoomTrooper team will benefit from a boost of experience next time they play!
We’ll be talking about a host of new features in the game including new actions, changes to the DoomTrooper and Event Cards and more over the coming days and weeks with videos of game play to show you more.
Here’s the first of several playtest videos to give you more insight in to how the game plays. This first one with Garry, Chris and Rita from Modiphius. Please note only playtest components are being used.
Here’s a playtest video testing some of the new tech rules
We’re shipping from local depots in the USA, Canada, EU, and Australia which means we pay any duties on shipments in to those regions, and you just pay for cheaper local shipping. We also have a Chinese depot now and and prices have been updated for this region.
We’re assuming the DoomTrooper pledge will be over 2kg whilst the Dark Legion pledge will be around 5-8KG depending on the Stretch Goals unlocked which is why there is a difference in shipping.
Ziemlich beeindruckende Masse, da ist ordentlich was zusammengekommen!
Besten Dank
Nein, nein, wahrscheinlich schon. Mal in Kürze😀
