Chernobog is an ancient entity serving alongside the Red Republik, brought to earth through the machinations of Professor Hammer and Baroque, but secretly preparing to stand alongside Stygian, Queen of the Forgotten.

Chernobog is a variant card for the Perun model, which creates a Villain option with his own flavor. Like Perun, Chernobog is a Brawler with ranged combat options, exchanging Perun’s Elements of Air and Water for Fire and Darkness. He is a very powerful character although he does have some vulnerability. Like Perun, Chernobog has Power Smash, an effective close combat action which allows him to use Objects to add an extra die to attacks (Smash It Up). He has a pretty typical AP 2 projectile attack, Umber Bolt, with Damage 1 as FX. His final Action is Umber Vortex, a potentially devastating area effect (Pulse 6) which Damages and can steal Power Up dice for Chernobog, however it is not selective so affects Friendly models too.

Chernobog’s Essence of Umber Power inflicts Damage 1 on Living models in Base to Base in each Effects Phase; opponents will want to ensure Chernobog moves as early in the Round as possible to minimize risk. His Bonds of Despair Power renders any Living model in base to base Immune to Displacement Effects – useful for anchoring allies, and for sneakily stopping models able to displace themselves such as Stinger or Twilight. For example, move into base to base with Twilight to render her Immune to the benefit from her own Vanish Reaction!

Chernobog has low non-Trump AGILITY, so many ranged attackers are ideal to tackle him. The few Actions that work against MIND also make him vulnerable (such as 100 Voice’s Whispers). Chernobog naturally has a home in both Red Republik and the Forgotten. Models like 100 Voices and Xenobi who are able to move Enemy Supremes closer to Chernobog offer excellent synergy, as does Sister Bedlam who can potentially offset some of the risk to his Team-mates of Chernobog’s huge Pulse (Umber Vortex) with her Pain-Link Aura.
