Perry Miniatures: Yeomanry Cavalry
And now for something completely different….
Well, not that different, it’s still WW2, but we have just released British Yeomanry Cavalry…on horses. There will be a dismounted code of these as well. Some Yeomanry Cavalry regiments fought mounted in Syria in 1941 becoming mechinized at the end of the campaign. The North Somerset Yeomanry were the last regt to gain a battle honour for a mounted action. They were mainly used for patrolling in difficult terrain. A bugler of the Cheshire Yeomanry who sadly died fairly recently commented on charging a Vichy held village. He said that they ‚drew swords and charged, but never raised them above their shoulders‘ as there was so much confusion in the village. It seems as if the French were at the point of surrender when they went in.
As Jon Glass has mentioned below, the helmeted types could be used for a Very British Civil War and someone else pointed out that they could be used WW1 cavalry in Palestine.
