Infinity: Hacking in N3
Corvus Belli geben in einem kleinen Artikel ein paar Infos zum Hacking bei N3.
“Enough,” said Carlos Torres.
“But it’s a really neat idea,” insisted someone who shall remain anonymous. “You just make a roll, and then reroll, and then add the discrete amount of piece of scenery between them, and subtract the total from the square root of…”
“That’s enough.” CB’s Art Director stressed the ‘nough’ with the calm terseness that often preceded one of his signature martial arts moves.
Picture a Bruce Lee. In this scene, Bruce is about to teach an insolent pupil a valuable lesson. That’s the tone of voice I mean.
“Which particular rules section has been solid, unproblematic for years?”
“Hacking?”
“You fool!” A stinging smack to the head. The Master disciplines his pupil with exquisite Asian cruelty. “The Weapons Chart layout is the one thing that has never been an issue,” expounded the Master. “Charts tell you everything you need to know. Once you comprehend the internal structure of a chart, it becomes an excellent tool for consult.”
“Ha! Heee-ya! Kiai!” Now they’re just karate-chopping wood planks for a little while.
“Say, Master… Would it be advisable to arrange the Hacking rules for N3 into a chart similar to the one used by firearms?” The pupil asked, jittery and meek.
Yes. The answer is yes. When time came to reconsider everything in the rulebook from the ground up, we bore in mind its virtues as well as its shortcomings. We strived to give the Hacking rules a solid structure with plenty of variety on top.
Once you wrap your head around the basic mechanic of Hacking Programs, you can focus on results and probabilities of success. You whip out the Chart to play, to consider your options and to get results.
“Visualize your victory… Impose your will over your opponent… Kiai! Hi-ya! Yaaa!” The Master is now sweet-talking his training dummy while he beats the splinters out of it.
