Imperial Assault: Wookiee Preview
“I suggest a new strategy, Artoo: let the Wookiee win.”
–C-3PO, Star Wars: A New HopeThe rise of the Empire wiped away many of the Republic’s old laws and statutes, and as the Empire’s power grew, entire species were condemned to slavery. This was the fate of the Wookiees of Kashyyyk – but the beginning of the Galactic Civil War has given the Wookiees a reason to fight and a chance to use their prodigious strength against the Empire. Soon, you’ll be able to swell your Rebel armies in Imperial Assault with the Wookiees included in the Wookiee Warriors Ally Pack.
Like other Ally Packs and Villain Packs for Imperial Assault, the Wookiee Warriors Ally Pack includes two sculpted plastic Wookiee Warriors figures, along with a new campaign side mission, two new skirmish missions that share a map, and four new Command cards to tailor your deck in a skirmish game. Unlike other figure packs, the Wookiee Warriors Ally Pack doesn’t coincide with another expansion, meaning that the Wookiee Warriors enter Imperial Assault for the first time in this expansion.
Today, we’ll preview the new tactics that you can use in your campaigns and skirmishes with the Wookiee Warriors!
Call Upon the Wookiees
The Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk is harsh and dangerous, and it’s forged the Wookiees into deadly warriors. Whether you’re playing a campaign or a skirmish game, the Wookiees boast one of the highest health values in the game. For just eight points, you receive two Wookiee Warriors,
each of which has eleven health. That’s a total of twenty-two health for just eight points! Your opponent is forced to either expend a massive amount of effort to slay the Wookiee Warriors or allow them to destroy his forces unhindered.
The Wookiee Warriors bring more to your strike team than a massive amount of health, though. Wookiee Warriors can spend their surges to trigger a variety of potent abilities, including dealing additional damage, inflicting the Bleeding condition, or cleaving to deal two damage to an adjacent figure. Finally, if your opponent does choose to take the Wookiee Warriors head-on, he’ll have to contend with the fury of an angered Wookiee. With the Fury ability, your Wookiee Warriors gain a free surge for every attack, as long as they’ve suffered at least five damage. Thus, your Wookiee Warriors become more dangerous even as they take damage.
Finally, if you want your Wookiee Warriors to have even more health, you may use the elite version of the Wookiee Warriors.
For three extra points, both of your Wookiee Warriors gain two additional health, and you can spend your surges to deal more damage. Whichever version of the Wookiee Warriors you use, you can be certain that the Empire’s soldiers will tremble at the thought of facing an enraged Wookiee.
Liberate Kashyyyk
For your campaigns, the Wookiee Warriors Ally Pack offers a new side mission: Brute Force.
In this side mission, Rebel High Command has discovered an Imperial monitoring facility in the wilderness of Kashyyyk. Both the Rebels and the Wookiees want this facility eliminated, so it should be easy for the Rebel heroes to find common cause with the Wookiee Warriors.
To successfully complete this side mission, the heroes and their Wookiee companions must blast their way into the facility and destroy the terminals that are crucial to the Imperial’s purpose on Kashyyyk. What’s more, if the Rebels can successfully complete this side mission, they receive the Wookiee Warriors as allies to be called upon in future campaign missions!
No matter which campaign mission you use the Wookiee Warriors in, they can fill a valuable role. Often, the Rebel heroes must spend their actions to move towards the mission goal, but if the heroes don’t confront the Imperial forces, they’ll quickly be cut down by concentrated fire. With these Wookiees as part of your group, you can dispatch the Wookiee Warriors to do what they do best – fight Imperials – while the heroes work towards the mission goal.
Powerful Allies
The Wookiee Warriors can have a significant impact on your Rebel armies in the skirmish game as well. Once again, the importance of the Wookiee Warriors’ massive health cannot be overstated. If your opponent wants to gain the points from killing the Wookiee Warriors, he’ll certainly have a long road ahead.
The Wookiee Warriors Ally Pack offers more than just the figures for the skirmish game though. This figure pack also introduces a brand-new skirmish upgrade, Fury of Kashyyyk.
This upgrade is an attachment for any Wookiee figure group and it makes the choice to fight or avoid the Wookiee Warriors even harder. When a figure in a group enhanced with Fury of Kashyyyk is attacked, the figure becomes Focused if it takes three or more damage.
In the end, Fury of Kashyyyk amplifies the problem that the Wookiee Warriors pose to your opponent. Your opponent can choose to avoid the Wookiee Warriors, but if he does, they’ll cut their way through his forces without opposition. Alternatively, your opponent can attack them head-to-head, but he’ll have to wear down the Wookiees’ significant health and deal with the bonus abilities gained by wounded Wookiee Warriors.
You’ll also find four Command cards in the Wookiee Warriors Ally Pack that can help you if you include these fierce warriors in your strike teams. You can play Parting Blow when a hostile figure leaves a space adjacent to a Brawler in order to make an immediate attack,
which can prove crucial if your enemy choose to flee from the Wookiee Warriors. Alternatively, any figure may use Improvised Weapons to strike at a foe who’s just out of range.
Finally, any Creature or Wookiee can benefit from Wild Fury.
This Command card allows a figure to become Focused and perform multiple attacks, but at the end of the activation, the figure becomes Stunned and Bleeding. Using Wild Fury unwisely could leave you exposed, but at the right moment, it might tip the balance and allow you to claim victory.

@Grim
