One of the most important roles in Praesidian society is that of the Birthing Mothers, or Joshitai. Charged with raising, teaching, and protecting Praesidian young; the future of the Praesidian Republic is laid upon the shoulders of the Birthing Mothers.

Even though it is the Spirit Warriors who assign the young their social class, it is the Birthing Mothers who shape the young Praesidians into the individuals they will grow up to be.

Because of their position, Birthing Mothers are incredibly respected, and often invited to give advice on all matters, from politics, to war. Any individual looking to effect large change must have the support of the Spirit Warriors on one side, and the Birthing Mothers on the other if they hope to win the support of the people.[…]
