BattleBones: Neuer Kickstarter

Ein interessantes Würfelspiel kommt aus England zu Kickstarter.

BattleBones sees players take on the role of a CleroMancer one of the MageCaste who use ancient Artefacts of great power to control the armies of the land. Through the use of these BattleBones, warriors and heroes are summoned to the field of battle, where great battlelines are created with which to attack the enemy.

Each turn players roll their dice and lay out their battlelines, placing the dice in the order they wish to play them. Dice are then compared in a rock-paper-scissors fashion with the winning dice able to continue the fight. The losing dice are killed and removed to the Graveyard.

It’s a great little game suited to killing time between wargames, waiting for a table to come available at the club, or down the pub with your friends.

The dice are being created for us by Q-Workshop. Below you can see how they will look when made. The first dice will be the White Hannan dice, with each Core Set containing 20 of them. More will be made available as an Add On (see Add-Ons below).

2 Power Dice are also included. These have the 6 spot replaced by the Sanctioned Chaos logo and are used to determine who gains the initiative in attacking first.

We’ve been working on BattleBones for 2 years and now we’re ready to take it to production. The game has been playtested at our Sanctioned Chaos games club, and now we’re looking to raise the funds to manufacture the Core Set.

We’ve paid for prototype dice, commissioned artwork and sourced all the different companies that will create all the different components from the dice themselves to the very packaging.

We’re offering two ways to pledge for BattleBones; the Core Set pledge and the Early Bird One Click Bundle

Core Set Pledge – £20 UK / £25 ROW

This will get you everything you need to start playing BattleBones with a friend: 20 Hannan dice, 2 Power Dice and the rules. Shipping is included as well wherever you are in the world.

Early Bird One Click Bundle – £65

This is for you completionists out there. Get the Core Set and one of every stretch goal we unlock for a significant discount against what the retail cost will be. This also includes shipping worldwide. We’re limiting this to 120 so as not to overstretch ourselves

TRY OUT THE GAME

BattleBones is a strategic game of bluff, counter bluff and tactical nuance. At first glance it may seem like highest roll wins, and to an extent that is true. However, this all depends on how you lay out your BattleBones.

Do you place your Daggers first in case your opponent wins the initiative, or do do you go all in, hoping you claim the first attack and so send in your Dragons and Heroes?

The expanded rules take this a step further, with each Faction having their own rules which affect the core principle of the game – adding bonus‘ to initiative rolls, being able to reclaim fallen warriors or even bringing more warmachines into play.

Create special battlelines as well by using all three rows of the battlemat. Place a dagger above a Dragon and assassinate 1 Dragon of an enemy before the battle begins. Place 2 daggers and assassinate all of those dice from one enemy.

Obviously the goal is to get the BattleBones Core Set funded, but what gaming Kickstarter would it be if there weren’t any stretch goals to aim for?

BATTLEMATS

To organise your dice during play, we have created some fantastic looking Battlemats. There is space for your battlelines, so it is easy to see which dice are fighting, which have been killed (they go in the Graveyard) and which can fight another day (they go in the Encampment).

Created from my very crude mock up drawn on MDF by our fantastic graphic designer Matt, this has been passed to Gamemat.eu who are making them for us. The material is that of a flexible mousemat: I scrunched this up, folded it and put it in my pocket for a few hours – and it still came out and rolled flat! (we don’t recommend you do this though!)

The prototypes came back and totally blew us away and with a few tweaks look even more amazing. They do a wide range of tabletop game mats and we highly recommend them and will be using some of their range for games at the club.

If we hit this stretch goal, we’ll add two battlemats into every Kickstarter Core Set for FREE. These will not be included in the retail release of the Core Set, however they will be able to be purchased for £10. We’ll add them in to the Add-On section as well.
